“So you’re telling me I need experience to get experience?” 🤔
Job postings: “Entry-level position. Requires 3+ years of experience.”
Me: “So, you want me to time travel?” 🕰️
Dear recruiters, hiring managers, and HR wizards, can we all agree that breaking into a new field shouldn’t require the skills of a seasoned adventurer? Everyone has to start somewhere!
Let’s give the passionate, driven, and slightly bewildered newcomers a chance to shine. 🌟 Remember, even the greatest experts were beginners once. 🚀

One of my recruiter friend had already sent 5 candidates for an Entry level role
Months later the hiring manager is trying to find the “fit” for them
Sure finding the right fit for a role depends on the position
But one thing we forget as hiring managers is that we can spot a great candidate a mile away.
Pretty much a great candidate for an entry level role is someone with:
↳Grit
↳Curiosity
↳A great attitude
↳And determination.
If you find someone with these attributes, it’s possible you can teach them the things they need to know over someone who has experience but a lack of excitement and energy.

"We're seeking an Entry-level staff but need two years of experience in the field".
How should one interpret a job post like that?
1️⃣ Ads like this overlook the potential of fresh talent, favoring experience over adaptability and eagerness to learn.
2️⃣ This creates a cycle where newcomers struggle to enter the workforce and companies complain 'talent shortage'.
❓ How do you think we can shift the hiring paradigm to be more inclusive of entry-level talent? Comment below with your thoughts or share your experience! 🚀 #EntryLevel#CareerDevelopment#BreakingBarriers
🌟 Navigating the Realities of Entry-Level Roles 🌟
Ever noticed job postings for entry-level positions requiring 1, 2, or even 3 years of experience? 🤔 Let's address the elephant in the room - that doesn't sound very "entry-level," does it?
This practice not only impacts job seekers but also sheds light on the dynamics within a company's recruitment team. It's a signal that perhaps there's a need for a deeper dive into the hiring processes.
💡 Training from the Ground Up: Unveiling the Solution 💡
It's time to rethink what "entry-level" truly means and to invest in proper training for recruitment teams. Providing a comprehensive understanding of the company's needs, culture, and the essence of entry-level roles can help address this issue at its core.
🌐 Striving for Change: 🌐
Let's advocate for transparent job descriptions and a commitment to genuine entry-level opportunities. This not only benefits job seekers but enhances the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the hiring process.

Fully agree.
I heard and read more and more about such issues also in EMEA IT market.
I believe it should come from Management and HR - clear goals supported by trainings whom to hire. If the issue is not fixed in the end there will be huge issues with retention, requests for salary raises, boring tasks, etc.

Dear Hiring Managers,
Please look into the job descriptions of the jobs you’re hiring for, and make sure they’re reasonable and make sense.
- Entry level? Don’t list a minimum of 5 years of experience
- Looking for a senior person? Specify on the JD
- Looking for specific skillset? Include them on the job listing as clear as possible and make sure they’re aligned with the role itself
Lastly, let’s push for better training programs at companies (and provide intentional training) so new employees can be trained properly and produce the high quality work that is expected from them — we know this is only one thing, but this can help them so much.
Don’t forget that when hiring someone, you’re giving them a chance, just like you were given one when you got your current job.

In addition to the below share, as we are moving into 2024, normalize mentioning the remuneration/ the budget range set towards a job role that you have listed for. This not only helps you as a recruiter position your time and resources, but also makes it simple for candidates to navigate through endless job listings, and invest their time/efforts into a role that suits them best.
As a recruiter, be specific with your requirements from a candidate towards the role listed and don't shock an experienced candidate at an interview with ridiculous offers.
If a candidate calls in post interview enquiring the status of their candidacy, give them the necessary information as you must. They've invested their time and resources to get down to your place of work, to meet you in person, to be interviewed. They are individuals seeking newer challenges, just as you have at some point. Have a pleasant approach and give them the necessary feedback.
Often ecruiters ask of your time but fail to hold a professional decorum when it comes to communicating with a candidate post interviews. You as a recruiter hold a professional responsibility with regards to how you represent the brand you address a candidate from.
To those seeking newer challenges, remember, somewhere, someone is looking for exactly what you have to offer. Good luck!
