Community Service Day in Zoe’s Garden at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital! Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital (JHACH) is a premiere clinical and academic health system, providing expert pediatric care for infants, children, and teens with some of the most challenging medical problems. Located in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg, FL the hospital’s mission is to provide leadership in child health through treatment, education, advocacy, and research. Zoe’s Garden was started more than 10 years ago by a grateful patient family to give back to others at JHACH, including patients, families, and employees. The garden is completely sustained with the help and dedication of staff and volunteers. It is a fully edible garden and utilized for education and sharing fresh produce in the Allkids Campus Market (which is a no cost market for patient families and employees). Coordinated by our own PSI employee, Treva Davis, who is a Trustee on the hospital’s Board of Trustees, PSI’ers had a wonderful time volunteering in the garden on June 21, 2024. While working in the garden employees built a Free Little Library, planted, pulled weeds, labeled plants, and panted decorative rocks. Great Job Team PSI!

The More For Memphis plan is the culmination of several years of cross-sector, community-oriented planning and collaboration initiated by Seeding Success. From Fall of 2019 to the current moment, we have worked to bring together nonprofit organizations, schools, businesses, healthcare providers, city and county governments, and community members to share their expertise and discover which research-backed strategies can lead to greater economic mobility for Memphians. “Intersectionality” is usually used to talk about identity, but it can also help us understand how complex the problems we face every day really are. A problem like student absenteeism often has several causes, such as health issues or a lack of transportation, and can start a negative domino effect in a child’s life. Preventing absenteeism could mean more investment toward school-based health centers and safe public transit. Higher attendance often means higher achievement in school, and higher achievement could lead to better postsecondary options and higher wages. Each of the strategies in the More for Memphis plan is part of an interconnected web that can benefit residents regardless of their zip codes. More for Memphis was designed to be intersectional so that it can better connect the systems that impact our lives and achieve exceptional outcomes. Stay tuned to learn more about the plan by following More For Memphis on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X. You can also sign up for the newsletter on moreformemphis.org. https://lnkd.in/gScTPnve

Vice Chair - Largo Planning Board & Boomer Products - Project, Reporting & Data Manager - Views are my own Political Advertisement Approved By and For Matt Faustini For Largo City Commission Seat 2
Articulating the 'why' behind any #candidacy is paramount. The City of #Largo #invested in me, my family, and our #neighborhood, catalyzing transformative #change. As a #lifelong #resident, I've experienced firsthand the impact of proactive community policies, particularly in #housing, #childcare and #communityengagement. My journey in Largo began at one year old, when my #family settled in the back unit of a #duplex in a challenged neighborhood. In 1996, pivotal changes occurred with the establishment of the Lake Palms #Outreach Center, a collaborative effort by the City of Largo #Recreation Department, the Largo #Police Department, and the #Juvenile #Welfare Board. This initiative provided #free #yearround services for youth under 18, offering a #safespace for #community-building, #games, #activities, #sports, #tutoring, field trips and #meals. Simultaneously, #communitypolicing initiatives fostered #trust and connection between law enforcement and residents. These efforts #revitalized our neighborhood, prompting residents to transition from #renters to #homeowners, including my own family. Inspired by dedicated #teachers, familial support, and by Largo's Outreach program, I overcame #academic #challenges to excel academically, culminating in recognition and awards by fifth grade. However, personal losses, including the passing of my grandmother and father and the impact of national tragedies like 9/11 all in 2001, underscored the #resilience and #compassion within our #community, which was #underscored to me by the #actions of those at Lake Palms Outreach Center. Despite adversities like #natural #disasters, such as #Hurricane Francis in 2004, I persevered academically, graduating with honors from Osceola High School and becoming the #first in my family to attend #university. Yet, the escalating #cost of #homeownership in Largo underscores the urgent need for #inclusive #policies that ensure #affordability and #opportunity for all residents. Today, I'm compelled to run for Largo City Commission to #uphold our community's #legacy of #inclusivity and #opportunity. While I can't recreate my #youth, I'm #committed to fostering a Largo that prioritizes #equity, #affordability, and the realization of every resident's #potential, regardless of their #background or #circumstances. This piece by the Schott Foundation for Public Education is a brief, powerful case study on how large #funders can be more than #donors - as #catalysts, connectors, and reinforcement for #community #collaborative efforts. One of Schott's areas of impact? More loving communities, and clear benefits to #children, families, and neighborhoods.

📣 It's GoodGiving time in the Bluegrass! As you are considering which non-profits to support during Blue Grass Community Foundation's GoodGiving Week, we ask that you support the innovative, important, and unique work that we do here at CivicLex. Why should you support us? - Everything we do is public; Our workshops, forums, newsletter, focus groups, game nights,, and more are free and open to the public! - We make local government more accessible; We answer questions like: How do I contact my Councilmember? What is public comment? Who can I work with to start a new project in my neighborhood? - Local government is really important; Housing, walking and biking paths, public transportation, parks, community events, composing, development, traffic, parking…You name it, we can show you how it’s connected to your local government! - We do big things with a small budget; In 2023, CivicLex’s budget was $310,000. With this, we continued many of our workshops and programs but also rolled out our new Park Equity Accelerator Program and developed a brand new K12 Program. It is a privilege and honor to do this work, but we can’t do it alone. 🫶🏼 There are only about 5,500 licensed foster homes available for the approximately 10,200 children in care in North Carolina alone. These statistics are not just numbers; they represent real children who deserve better. They deserve consistency, stability, and a chance at a brighter future. 🌟 Unfortunately, the foster care system is struggling and many kids are facing the heartbreaking reality of bouncing from one home to the next. We can’t sit idly by. We can make a difference. Our programs are proving that they make a difference. 💪✨ Here’s how YOU can help: 1️⃣ Educate Yourself: Understand the complexities of the foster care system, the challenges these children face, and the role you can play in improving their lives. 2️⃣ Volunteer: Offer your time and skills as a Love Box® Volunteer, a Dare to Dream® Mentor, or research foster care licensing if you’re interested. 3️⃣ Donate: Support our impactful programs which provide resources, advocacy, and support to children and families experiencing foster care. 4️⃣ Spread Awareness: Share these heartbreaking statistics and stories to help us bring awareness and encourage others to join the cause. Not everyone can foster a child, but everyone can help! 💛 #fostercarestatistics #fostercare #fosterfamily #ncfostercare #charlotte #makeadifference #supportfosteryouth #agingoutoffostercare #mentorship #mentor
