Olabukunola Williams is the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Lead at Akina Mama wa Afrika In this interview with SIHA Network, Buky urges that the Maputo Protocol is one of the world’s most extensive and progressive legal instrument on women's rights because "in addition to promoting women's social and economic rights, it guarantees the right to access safe and legal abortion by African women following sexual assault, rape, and incest and where the continued pregnancy endangers the mental or physical health of the mother or the life of the mother or the foetus." Do you agree that women should have the right to make autonomous decisions about their own bodies and reproductive functions? driver of change (urban health II theory of change II innovation II strategic financing II management)
Titled, "Making a Difference: Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in Bangladesh", these stories talk about UNFPA’s work as they transform the lives of ordinary citizens of Bangladesh. Reflecting their - provider and beneficiary – enthusiasm and excitement, these stories provide hope for all people in Bangladesh. The key message of these stories is: if it can have this impact on the most marginalized and remote, sure, it can have the same on all; the only thing that is left is to reach all. From a sense of pride of being a midwife to a proud transgender changing the lives of fellow community members, these stories bring out the human side of UNFPA’s work. Community engagement, taking services to people and saving lives are the underlying themes of all these stories, covering the entire range of SRHR programme. The stories span from maternal health to obstetric fistula; from family planning to urban sexual and reproductive health; and from cervical cancer to health sector response to gender based violence. How men, women, boys, girls and gender diverse people, on either side of service, provider and beneficiary, interact, complement and carry out their work, are the undercurrent of these stories – they are the testimony of gender equality, inclusiveness and leaving no one behind. Stories like these are our rewards at UNFPA and motivate us to carry on our work, no matter how daunting the challenges are. Replication of these stories, remain our wish and for that we are fully committed to walk hand in hand with government and partners, to transform people’s lives and in the process, achieve sustainable development goals for all. https://lnkd.in/e8GWE87b

[International Day of Action for Women’s Health] The International Day of Action for Women’s Health is observed every year on May 28. We commemorate this day to highlight women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) globally. Gender inequalities in healthcare remain a global health issue, hindering women’s access to healthcare. On this day, we advocate for women’s rights across the world to provide equitable access to not only healthcare for all women but also women’s sexual and reproductive rights, such as sexual health, sexual rights, reproductive health, and reproductive rights. Let us join the global movement in creating awareness and upholding women’s SRHR towards creating a world where every woman has the right to lead a healthy life. #WomensHealth #SRHR #MPS

👉🏼 Let's talk about why #UPR recommendations are valuable tools to advance #SRHR priorities 📑 📃 The Universal Periodic Review (#UPR) is the global process in which UN Member States undergo evaluation by other Member States concerning the implementation of their #HumanRights obligations. During this review, other countries and civil society can offer recommendations, and once accepted, each Member State must implement and report its implementation in the next cycle. 🔎 This process provides a unique and valuable opportunity to propose specific actions that improve the situation of human rights in our countries, particularly in sexual and reproductive rights. 🇲🇽 In this cycle, IPPF and Mexfam A.C are proposing recommendations to Mexico on Child, Early, and Forced Marriage and Unions (#CEMFU):
