Networks of marine protected area managers fill a significant gap in the resilience of our oceans. While there are numerous intergovernmental entities operating at international level (UNDALOS, UNCBD, BBNJ, IUCN, etc.), at regional level (Barcelona Convention, Cartagena Convention, European Union, ASEAN, the Coral Triangle Initiative, etc.), and at national level (all the countries of the world, and NGOs operating at national level).
What is glaringly and loudly missing is the voices and the challenges from the field!
MPA manager networks provide an opportunity for manager's voices to be heard loud and clear through international negotiations. The connections they make with one another within their networks, and the connections between networks across the world strengthen the resilience of our oceans and ourselves.
