Really think about it; are there products that you use because you saw them used by someone you admire in a movie? Film writers strive to #connect with their target audience. They often times do this by creating characters and storylines that their audiences desire to emulate or mirror. People may strive to mirror their favorite characters by using the same products that they see their #hero using. This has been proven to be a very powerful form of #advertising and it’s no coincidence that certain brands are associated with the hero and other competing brands are associated with the villain. Story based ad? Emotional Marketing? Yes, this is the absolute best strategy. When you touch people with a few of the 6 basic human emotions (Anger, Disgust, Fear, Happiness, Sadness, Surprise) you make them remember. And this is really all you can ask for in an ad. For the viewer to remember you or your brand. Chevrolet touched my heart with this film and it will resonate with anyone out there with a loved one struggling with dementia. Notice that while there is an old Chevrolet in the short film, the brand is NEVER spoken, pointed, highlighted or explained how many cup holder the car has. Super Bowl commercials serve as an excellent opportunity to gauge current trends or overused techniques in cinematography. Here are a few observations from 2024: The wide and close lens. Ads shot primarily with wide lenses have been super popular in the past few years. I often see them keeping the camera closer to talent and shooting from a lower angle. Although this one may be beginning to phase out, I still quite like the look. Color grading is leaning towards either a clean, bright, and natural look, or a split-tone, saturated, and low-contrast style. Video walls were only noticeably used in two ads. This suggests that the industry is moving in the right direction by using them more subtly. I was relieved to see less of that shot where the camera rapidly moves up into the talent's face, often handheld. This one has been extremely overused by now. Most of the current trends I’m noticing seem to have been around for a while. I'm curious to see what techniques will emerge for the rest of the year. My prediction is we will see more snorri-cam shots, and camera movement that intentionally breaking of the fourth wall, for example, picking up the camera from the ground and framing it up during the shot. JET’s iconic ‘Keep on Moving’ campaign for 2023 - is part of a six-week programme of activity. The two films which launched the campaign were created entirely in CGI to demonstrate the simple idea that JET is here to help drivers get back on the road. The first film features a retro blue convertible as it glides along a picture-perfect countryside road on a sun-drenched afternoon. Inside the car sit four large yellow balloons, which gradually begin to deflate as the car continues its journey. Then, as the car passes through a JET service station, they immediately re-inflate. We see the car driving off towards the horizon as the words ‘Keep on Moving’ appear in bold yellow font. In the second film, the premise is repeated but instead of balloons the ‘passengers’ are giant light bulbs that dim and illuminate as the convertible passes through a JET service station. If you can dream it, you can do it. A man of very few words, Enzo Ferrari still remains a legend. And, if you know anything about me, I have, as my girlfriend would say, a sickening obsession with Ferrari. So, when today’s awwwards. Site of the Day landed to be the Ferrari Movie, it would have been completely out of nature to not say something about it. A crisp, clean web design with impactful yet simplistic branding emulates what a Ferrari should be- Elegantly beautiful. The use of solid red and black do not distract you from Mann’s stills of the motion picture. I have always felt there was something emotionally charging yet somewhat fortifying of the 2 tone colour system, wherever it's implementation. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication and in an era of quiet luxury, we needn’t have over complicated design. Let’s talk about the time we thought the FAA was shutting us down. There was a moment on this shoot that my worst fear almost became reality. We thought we did a big no no, and the FAA shutting us down. (For the record, this is not an admission of guilt 😂 ) I’m a firm believer that an epic location is a key component to making a project 10/10. I dream of finding locations that make me freak a little 😀 Ones that fit the mood we're going for. It often makes our projects really tough to pull off, but we really can't help ourselves than to spend the time to find the right spots. This shoot we locked in an epic luxury car garage with our friends at The Chicago Car Collective. Car lifts, million dollar supercars, and other things way above my pay grade, you name it this place has it. We also shut down an airport runway for sunrise. Talk about a dream location! If you know me, I’m a big fan of anything to do with aviation and it’s been on the bucket list to shoot on a runway. We had clear instructions. “Do this and you’re good, but whatever you do, DON’T do this.” “Ok got it. Team, did you hear that?” “Yep, we go it.” Cameras are rolling, we’re getting the money shots. But then it happened. Did we just?… That’s the moment I thought it was over. We really screwed up. I looked at Kyler in shock. The team took a minute, waiting for something to happen. Well folks, spoiler alert… nothing happened. And that’s often how filmmaking goes! The Midsummer Story | Full Film. "Midsummer" by 'The Morgan Motor Company' in collaboration with 'Pininfarina'. One of the most timeless designed and crafted cars of the 21st Century so far and those with the deepest pockets will gain entry to a car crafted to a level not seen since the Great Enzo Ferrari era.  It is called the "Midsummer" because this will be the only time such a car can be driven for what it was ever built or intended for and for those lucky people who can purchase one of the very best from the best designed by the greatest opens the gates of heaven to an ultra exclusive club of a car category. The Ferrari 250 GT California, one of the most coveted cars of the 20th century which will never been beaten and only a rare 33 Ferrari 250 GT California's exist.  The 'Midsummer' gives that platinum moment for some to purchase what I will call a '21st Century Ferrari 250 GT California'. I say this from seeing the rear of the 'Midsummer' with that long flowing rear and the perfectly placed chromed double exhaust left me seeing briefly the Ferrari 250 GT California. In the 22nd Century The 'Midsummer' will be just as coveted as 'The Ferrari 250 GT California' is from the 20th Century.  Such a breath of fresh air The 'Midsummer' is in an overly stuffy hyper car era of car manufacturers and production. This small article on such a car cannot possible be enough for such a Master class of Coach building rarely ever seen in our time period.
