Today is my ACTUAL work anniversary at Cardinal Group Management! 12 years ago today, I started at a small company based in Denver, and still very appreciative of what we’ve been able to accomplish. In honor of this, I wanted to tell a quick story: Many years ago, I encouraged one of my Maintenance Supervisors to train his promising Technician on more tasks and duties. He adamantly opposed. “As soon as I train him, you’re just going to get rid of me and give him my job!” he said. My response: “Why would I get rid of you when I can have the both of you? How much more valuable are you to me if you show me you can teach? How much more valuable to the company beyond your current role?” He immediately grabbed his tech and took him to show him some new tasks. Something clicked. In that moment, the supervisor learned something, but what I learned may have been more important. My perspective was not his original perception. His view may have been shaped by his past experiences, work related trauma, or just lack of communication from his other leaders. He also was not privy to all the info I had. He needed a different type of insight and he need it from me. Right then. In that moment. One thing I’ve tried to keep with me over the years is the importance of open and honest communication with those you work with. As leaders, people need a level of transparency from us to build trust and remain committed to the purpose. We also have to take the time to understand our team members’ place, what resources they need, and help create legitimate paths for success for them. That’s not always title or money either. It’s a genuine care that someone’s livelihood often rests with you. And that requires consistency, discipline and humility from leaders. I appreciate Cardinal Group for giving me the opportunity to try and be a better leader and hopefully continue to assist future leaders also.

How do I measure 15 years How do you count 15 years? It’s been 15 years since Samer & I started G&K, which led me to the question: how do I count 15 years? Do I count the amazing customers, the reason for our existence, who entrusted us to help them with their business? The projects? The achievements & recognition? Or do I count the failures, setbacks, frustrations and sleepless nights? In reflecting on this, I've realized the best way to measure these 15 years is not just through our successes and the growth our customer businesses have achieved, but equally in the stories of the incredible people who have been part of our G&K journey & family. To you, ex-clients, clients, co-workers & ex co-workers, partners, suppliers and referrers - this journey would have never been possible wihout you! Your journeys, intertwined with ours, have been the real milestones, marking our path with shared memories, experiences and mutual growth. G&K emerged during the economic turbulence of 2008, founded with the vision of aiding our clients in their transformation and growth. We emphasized nurturing talent, striving for excellence, and fostering innovation. Now, this mission holds even greater significance As we look ahead, we’re excited for what the future holds. We remain committed to our values, to delivering excellence, and to being a positive force in our industry and community. Here’s to the next 15 years – may they be as enriching, challenging, and rewarding as the last. #Anniversary #BusinessGrowth #Teamwork #CustomerSuccess #Resilience #G&K

Closing in on my first year with Santos Ltd, and it has definitely been one of the best experiences of my career - so far. Coming in as a former contractor, without much experience in leading an operation, this was the biggest challenge I can honestly say I had to overcome. I can admit, from having no direct reports in any of my previous roles, it took some time adjusting to my new role and establishing a working relation with my teams in the in-feild Logistics operation. I applied different methods at first, all which seldom worked, and had a subtle fear of speaking to a team “as a leader” - not to be confused with public speaking. Yes, there are different types of leadership skills in our scope of work. To find my style of leadership, I had to find a balance by building a good bond with my team first; getting to know each person by name, listening to their opinions/perspectives, and basically putting myself on the same level with each of my team members. Of course, when it comes to the operational aspects, I have to be a little more stern in my approach to ensure we were meeting our daily targets. Now at 10 months in, I can honestly say, I have the confidence to not only speak in front of a larger team, but also lead without second guessing my team’s capabilities. It has taken several months, but this newly acquired skill will definitely stick with me for a lifetime. Great appreciation for the PenTrans (Moro) and GFS (Gobe) team. Day in, day out, rain, hail or sun, we always find ways to deliver. Yupla stap na mi stap. 💯

12 years in the making. I did not read the dress code before starting at STAR. So, on my first day it was a hundred degrees outside and my high heels weren’t the best choice. I was feeling pretty awkward.. And then a Teams message popped up: “𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐛 𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫?”. The feeling of inclusion as soon as I read this, is something I won’t forget. Christophe Coquilhat was the one sending the message. This year marks his 12𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑. 12 years of recruitment, key account & business development management. 𝐖𝐨𝐰. Being a quiet force, he has taught me to not underestimate the 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲. And to always have an open mind. Champion in telling the 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐣𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐬, he also knows the 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐚𝐭 and 𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟. 𝐇𝐞’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐮𝐩. Here’s to wishing you all a colleague like Christophe Coquilhat.. 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 12! 🏆 STAR Specialists is where you grow a career just like this one. Sales supermodels: Sari Van Tendeloo Roos den Hartog Anne de Peinder.

Unleashing the Shift from Disability to Discovering Ability | Leading at The Accidental Ally | Transforming Disability Employment | LinkedIn Top Voice
I love this concept shared by Jillian Als. She says, "Do you have a personal board of directors? 👀 Who are the people you call on to help you make the big decisions, see the things you cannot see, give you the insight you otherwise hadn't considered?" I firmly believe that #mentorship is meaningless without #sponsorship. Great mentors not only give great advice but are also great connectors. What does that mean? It means that your mentor/sponsor is fully invested in your success and achieving your goals, is willing to connect you to people, and opportunities, will talk you up, and will create opportunities for you to explore your potential. They are the true champions of your work and of you! My former boss Hugh Molotsi once told me that as an entrepreneur you want to ask yourself the question, 'Are you surrounded by pigs or chickens?' It is a terrible analogy, especially for an animal lover like me. But it makes an important point. It is another way to say that you want people who are fully committed to helping you (as a pig would give up its life to give you bacon) versus chickens who only give an egg and move on. The analogy points to examining the level of commitment you get from the people you seek advice from. Do you have a personal board of directors, your champions, your mentor/sponsors, your godfathers or pigs/ chickens or whatever you want to call them? Thank you Jillian Als for your post and promoting a great discussion on this important topic. #entrepreneurship #mentorship #sponsorship
Do you have a personal board of directors? 👀 Who are the people you call on to help you make the big decisions, see the things you cannot see, give you insight you otherwise hadn't considered? I have quite the personal board of directors that I am extra grateful for these days as I navigate finding my next career move by helping me: 🔍 Separate fact from fiction - helping me think about what employers are not saying... ⛅ See upsides when I saw potential downsides in a role 🌱 Think about growth potential I didn't consider 📣 Cheerleader-level support AND cut the bullsh*t talks... 📊 The math - I'm ok but they help me level up on which metrics to ask more about/poke holes in 🌟 And ultimately sometimes they know me better than I know myself, where will I shine brighest, give the best version of Jillian So big shout out to my personal board Sam Rahmanian Ray Carey Jannik Grøntved Louise Lachmann and chairman and husband extraordinaire Christian Als - ya'll are the best. PS... no, it has not escaped me how even my own board is 80% Male 🙈
