In a world that is quite brutal to live in, purpose led brands make such an impact enabling a platform to bring attention to untouched, unspoken topics that are not focused on conventional brands. Working for one of the largest purpose led brands myself, it has taught me the impact purpose led brands have in creating a conversation and that movement to bring up real issues faced by real people we actually end up catering to. As heartfelt as it is, it is also that human element bought up by the purpose that helps people connect and engage with these brands making them these extraordinary case studies for us brand managers to keep studying with. #purposedrivenbrands #branding

On Tuesday, the world celebrated #WorldMentalHealthDay. A historically taboo topic for #Boomers and #GenX, #MentalHealth conversations have entered the mainstream thanks to increased adoption of #therapy and openness from #Millennials and #GenZ to address the topic. It is estimated that over 40 million adults in the US receive some form of therapy or counseling. The market size for #antidepressants was valued at $6.9 billion last year and is expected to exceed $9.3 billion by 2030. And thanks to #telehealth providers such as hims & hers, the barriers to accessing #medication to treat these issues have lowered.  Consumers are now going beyond stopping the stigma around mental health. They are proudly celebrating the strength it takes to acknowledge issues such as anxiety and depression. One way they’re doing so? Through merch! #EileenKelly, host of the popular podcast #GoingMental launched an apparel line themed around mental health. One shirt said, “Depressed, But Make It Hot,” while others featured the names of common anti-depressants such as #Lexapro, #Prozac and #Zoloft.  Available for sale through her blog, Killer And A Sweet Thang , all items are currently sold out. Athleisure brand, Sporty & Rich released a “Wellness Club” collection aimed to destigmatize mental health acceptance and treatment. With a #preppy, #collegiate aesthetic, their CEO has stated her hope that people wear their medications with the same pride they wear their alma mater. Other brands selling mental health-related merchandise include STAY WEAR, Beepy Bella and SEE THE WAY I SEE The Way I See, which was featured on a recent episode of #SharkTank. And finally, #LadyGaga, an outspoken advocate for mental health, just partnered with Australian brand, Cotton On Foundation, for a collection of apparel that will donate 100% of proceeds to her Born This Way Foundation, which provides youth mental health resources and support.  As the stresses of the world amplify, let's hope these products continue to #StopTheStigma and encourage more people to discuss and treat their mental health. A FORGOTTEN BRAND? In a recent assignment from Genesis Mwamba during our 12 ON 12 class, I delved into a self-search on Google—an enlightening journey. Years ago, before my focus shifted to mental health, I passionately shared my hair journey. Admiration for my hair grew, prompting inquiries about my care routine, growth secrets, and maintenance. Responding honestly, I shared, “I simply braid my hair, rarely scalp it, and use basic shampoo. Twist outs come into play when it’s not in braids.” Reflecting on this, I’m reminded of Colleen Hoover’s words, “If only you shine light on your flaws, all your perfects will dim.” There it was; People perceive what’s intentionally revealed. Genesis’s insight, “There is a brand about you out there, whether you created it or not,” led me to revisit myself, explore forgotten roots, and question if there’s a part of me I’ve left behind.
