After 17 fabulous years of working at Extendicare, today is my last day. I’m grateful for every moment that I’ve had here – from my early days on our Quality Team facilitating quality improvement sessions across Western Canada, to my time with our Operations Team when I was a Regional Director responsible for long-term care homes from Toronto to Manitoulin Island, to the opportunity to lead the Public Affairs Team and represent Extendicare on Association boards at the provincial and national levels and, to the final flourish when I had the privilege of launching a refreshed mission, vision and values at our National Conference in May. There were difficult times and hard projects and heartbreaking moments but they were far outweighed by the learning, laughter and, yes, love. Extendicare is a mission-driven organization filled with values-based leaders and I am proud of what we’ve accomplished over the years. I’ve had the great honour of speaking with many residents in our long-term care homes, with ParaMed Home Health Care patients, with clients of SGP Purchasing Partner Network and with government stakeholders and I know that the work we do has a positive impact on so many lives. We truly are creating a future where everyone in Canada has access to the care and services they need to live their best lives. I will now be taking a month off to hang out by the pool with my family and organize my house. I don’t plan to touch a computer at all so that I’m refreshed (and tanned) when I start my new role later in August. I look forward to checking back in then and sharing updates on my new adventures.
