Today I learned SMS short codes can be spoofed. If you're like me and didn't know this, now you do. Longer version: we had an internal thread about a phishing attempt on one of our teammates family members. Apparently the phishing message was sent as an SMS, with a link in it to fill out personal information. But the message showed up in the "thread" of all the other legit messages. And the URL was shortened (not unusual in an SMS message) hiding the final address. Of course, checking the URL bar helps in these situations, but I would have fallen for it too given the SMS message appeared to come from the short code that the bank used. However those can be spoofed. Consider yourself warned. https://lnkd.in/eJGdXReR
