Ever wondered about the real benefits of team retreats? A recent Stanford study had some insights. The Study: Examining an all-remote team's Slack communications before and after their annual retreat. Findings: 📈 A striking 120% uptick in online interactions post-retreat! But interestingly, these increased mainly among teammates with similar backgrounds. 🚕 But here's a twist: Even a simple cab ride to the event sparked connections regardless of backgrounds. The secret sauce? "Liminal spaces." These unplanned, casual moments where organic bonds form. Think spontaneous chats in a coffee queue or waiting in a registration line. Real connections often ignite in the most unexpected scenarios. Quick Tip: In our recent company retreat, we intentionally carved out more free time slots instead of a packed schedule. The feedback was the best we've ever received! If you're crafting a retreat for your remote team, drop me a message. I'd love to share more tips!

Here’s a friendly and informative guide by Venue Retreat to help you through the process, based on years of experience hosting successful retreats we have helped host, plan and connect with clients from Netflix, Ghost, Testing Time & many others. Why Plan a Company Retreat? Company retreats offer numerous benefits, including business introspection and culture building. They provide an opportunity for teams to step back, evaluate business performance, and foster personal connections. Retreats help align everyone with the company's goals, enhance team cohesion, and celebrate achievements. This is even more imperative in 2024 because of remote work culture exploding so business culture can sometimes be more difficult to foster outside of the offsite but not impossible. Regular team retreats and company offsites help combat this and create a strong company culture through all departments. 1. Business Introspection Taking a step back to assess your company’s performance, processes, and progress is essential. Retreats allow your team to focus on the big picture, share ideas, and ensure everyone is aligned with the company’s vision. This is a valuable time to brainstorm improvements and innovations that can drive the business forward. 2. Double-Down on Building Culture Retreats are also about building a strong, cohesive culture. Spending time together outside the office environment helps team members get to know each other better, fostering stronger relationships and enhancing collaboration. Planning a company retreat but working with limited funds? • Go local - Host it at a nearby park, community center, or even switch up the office environment. Adding simple touches like decor and catering can make it feel special. • Get everyone involved with meals - Potlucks, build-your-own food bars, grilling competitions. The team-building activities make it more fun. • Lean into team activities - Scavenger hunts, field games, talent shows. You'd be surprised how engaged and energized people get. • Blend in virtual elements - Use video conferencing to include remote employees, or book an online experience like a virtual cooking class. Planning a retreat involves numerous logistical and financial details. Routespring simplifies this process, eliminating the need for personal cards or employee reimbursements. I just hosted a team retreat and here’s what I learnt: 🌍 1 - It humanises everybody Running a remote team has its perks. But when the team comes together for a retreat, it’s like: everyone’s “REAL” and around you. Suddenly you see people for who they are, what their energy is like, and what are their strengths and weaknesses. It’s also a great way to better optimise the team and its structure: Is their role in alignment with their strengths? Would they do better in another role? Do their responsibilities need to be tweaked? 🥳 2 - It allows a collective experience Experiences aren’t about the places you go to, but rather the stories you have to tell about the places. A team retreat pushes everyone out of their comfort zone and allows us all to live memorable experiences together. This is HUGE for building and cultivating the right company culture. 🏆 3 - It gives a refresher on the benefits of remote work Most people who are working in a remote team or building online businesses tend to spend most of their time alone. They are hustling day in and day out, and a team retreat is a great way to prove that all that kind of grind comes with experiential rewards. Retreats are a great way for the team to go, “I’ve been putting all this effort over the months, and it’s paying off with THIS amazing experience!” Have you ever hosted/ been on a team retreat? #TimoteChanut

When teams gather for a company retreat, there's a tendency to fill the agenda with all the activities and discussions missed during remote work. However, this often results in an overloaded schedule, leaving little time for relaxed, meaningful team connections. Here are some strategies to ensure your retreat is both productive and enjoyable: ➡️ Clarify your objectives: what do you hope to achieve? Whether it's enhancing team cohesion or brainstorming new ideas, having a clear goal is crucial. ➡️ Relevant activities only: choose activities that directly support your objectives. This keeps the retreat focused and beneficial. ➡️ One major activity per day: this prevents the team from feeling overwhelmed and ensures high participation and enthusiasm. ➡️ Optional participation: not everyone may feel comfortable with all activities, so offering options can help cater to diverse preferences. ➡️ Allow for unstructured time: organic interactions often lead to the most valuable team bonding experiences. By implementing these tips, you’re more likely to achieve a successful and enjoyable retreat. Need assistance with planning?
