Thank you Tim Cohen for a wonderful case study in transformational leadership. I mean transformation in the sense of getting a massive problem solved, and in so doing finding a sustainable way to move forward. What stands out for me in his article is the complexity (or chaos) that calls for transformational leadership, and the kind of leaders able to respond effectively. Context-aware, iron-willed, "not your average plumbago" leaders. Leaders able to recruit talent from cushier rides onto burning comets. Leaders (however grudgingly) respected long after the job was done. Take a moment to read a South African story of the challenges of organisational transformation, and then tip your hat.
