#SonyPics’ Employee Business Resource Group Wellbeing, Awareness, Vision, and Equality (WAVE) APAC hosted a volunteer event (a first for our Singapore office!) in partnership with Project Dignity, an organization providing work training for differently-abled adults. Members of this organization, in turn, taught our volunteers how to prepare and distribute meals for the community.

“I am a mum first” This is how I introduce myself in 2023 and take pride in doing so. It was only ten years ago that I interviewed 21 times before I finally secured a role. Well, let’s just say at 20 of those interviews I briefly mentioned returning to the workforce after having babies. Family Friendly Workplaces are shining a light on those barriers and are providing corporate Australia with an opportunity to commit to equality, equity, and flexibility”. – General Manager – Capability, Fortem Australia. Congratulations to our most recently certified Family Inclusive Workplace Fortem Australia! As an organisation dedicated to supporting First Responders and their families, Fortem Australia knows that caring for their team is vital too. “Fortem Australia has over 50 employees, many of whom are mums, dads, single parents and carers. This certification allows us to build a workplace of the future and to demonstrate our commitment to current staff and future recruits to settle for nothing less.” – General Manager – Capability, Fortem Australia. Fortum has set a shining example of how organisations can prioritise the wellbeing and happiness of their employees, by showcasing Salesforce and IT Administrator, Kirsty M's story. In January 2023, Kirsty was granted the opportunity to explore the beauty of Australia while travelling in her caravan and continuing to work full-time. Kirsty's story is just one example of how Fortem Australia fosters innovation, inclusion, and employee wellbeing. https://hubs.la/Q01Zy6Zc0 Thinking about becoming a Family Inclusive Workplace? To Be Social or Not to Be Social… 🤔 Did you know that the absence of social connections is linked to 13 times more reported negative thoughts? https://lnkd.in/dnWquRD7 Employees without social connections are more likely to assess their professional lives negatively, and their overall wellbeing is negatively impacted. That's why at DP World, we're all about building a culture where everyone feels included and supported, because we know that greater diversity in the workplace fosters creativity and helps spark innovative thinking. By taking part in a wellbeing journey with Wellbees through our WoW “World of Wellbeing Programme”, we’re evolving and learning to meet our people’s needs as we grow. This month, as part of our efforts to raising awareness on Social Wellbeing, we're putting the spotlight on neurodiversity to help us share similarities and embrace differences while acknowledging neurodiverse differences we often cannot see! Acknowlegement of our differences often starts with self awarness to create opportunities for all. When we create opportunities for internal connections, we're not just boosting social lives, but our overall wellbeing for better future too. #Inclusionanddiversity #wellbeing #neurodiversity #futureofwork #sustainability

Happy World Social Work day to all the social worker. Your dedication to helping others is truly inspiring and makes a positive impact on so many lives!😇❤️ The theme of World Social Work Day 2024 is 'Buen Vivir: Shared Future for Transformative Change'. History: The first World Social Work Day was celebrated in 2007 with the theme 'Social Work - Making a World of Difference'. The initiative was approved by the member organisations of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) during its 2004 General Meeting in Adelaide. The current date was agreed upon during the 2008 General Meeting in Brazil, and it will be in place until 2020. However, it is important to recall the history of this day back to the 1980s, when the IFSW United Nations Representatives in New York proposed a project to bring social workers from the area into the UN Headquarters in New York. This would mark the beginning of an annual celebration known as Social Work Day at the United Nations. The day's initial concept was to find a way to explain the work of the United Nations to the social work profession and to increase awareness of how social workers can collaborate with the NGO's on humanitarian issues. #socialchange #socialimpact #socialwork #socialworkers

Make a Difference, One Story at a Time: How Volunteering with Chapter One Can Boost Your Well-being In today's world, mental well-being is a growing concern. The recent study by the University of Oxford below raises questions about the effectiveness of individual-level interventions in workplaces. However, there are ways individuals can take action to improve their own well-being, while also making a positive impact on others. Volunteering with Chapter One offers a unique opportunity to do just that by connecting children with volunteer readers who provide one-to-one online reading support. This program fosters a love of reading in children, a crucial skill for academic success and their overall development. But what's in it for the volunteers? Here are just a few reasons why volunteering with Chapter One can be incredibly rewarding for your own well-being: Sense of Purpose: Contributing to a cause you care about, like improving literacy in children, can provide a strong sense of purpose and fulfillment. This feeling of connection is a key factor in combating feelings of isolation and boosting mental well-being. Social Connection: Volunteering allows you to interact with others who share your passion for helping children. These connections can combat loneliness and build a supportive network. Reduced Stress: Studies show that helping others can lower stress hormones and promote feelings of calm and relaxation. Personal Growth: Reading with a child allows you to share your love of stories and revisit the joy of reading yourself. Skill Development: Volunteering can help you develop new skills in communication, patience, and empathy. The time commitment required by Chapter One is minimal, with volunteers reading online with a child for 30 minutes a week. This small investment can have a significant impact on both the child and the volunteer. While the study by the University of Oxford suggests that individual interventions may not be the sole solution for workplace well-being, volunteering with Chapter One offers a unique way to take charge of your own mental health. By helping a child, you'll not only be contributing to their future but also fostering your own sense of purpose, connection, and overall well-being. So, why not visit Chapter One's website today and learn more about how you can make a difference, one story at a time?
If you are responsible for your company's recruitment, retention and employee wellbeing, here are two new pieces of research which make for required reading: 1️⃣ Research from Pro Bono Economics, commissioned by Royal Voluntary Service shows that employer-led volunteering is not only good for recruitment, retention and wellbeing, it actually boosts productivity and pay. https://lnkd.in/eMDtgT-Y 2️⃣ William Fleming at Wellbeing Research Centre has found that wellbeing interventions fail to improve mental wellbeing with one single, positive exception — when companies support their workforce around the option of volunteering. https://lnkd.in/eHDBeist Chapter One’s virtual, time-efficient, flexible model for volunteering will enhance your company’s employee value proposition, whilst fulfilling CSR or social value commitments around education, social mobility and inclusion. We are at the end of Social Work Week 2024! Let's continue to celebrate the incredible work of social workers and highlight the importance of changing perceptions! Social Work England's latest research provides valuable insights into the public's perception of social work. While 74% of adults believe social workers have the best interests of the people they serve at heart, only one in 10 social workers feel adequately respected in society. This contrast emphasises the need to address misconceptions and negative stereotypes surrounding the profession. But there's hope, as over half of social workers are committed to staying in the profession, demonstrating their dedication to making a difference. To tackle these challenges head-on, Social Work England’s new 'Change the Script' campaign aims to educate the public on the vital role of social work in England and advocate for more accurate depictions in the media. We’re supporting this crucial campaign – and always happy to show our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of social workers everywhere! #ChangeTheScript #SocialWorkWeek2024
