In celebration of Black History Month, I feel it’s important to recognize the Black innovators in data science and AI. There are so many Black icons to applaud in these fields. Like Dr. Gladys West, whose mathematical calculations laid the foundation for today’s GPS. Or Lisa Gelobter, a computer scientist credited with developing the digital animation technology used to create GIFs. And Joy Boulamwini, who conducts research on AI's social implications and founded the Algorithmic Justice League to work toward a world with more ethical and inclusive tech. These trailblazers are true pioneers in their fields, and they inspire me daily. Here are some questions that were discussed: - how do we think about ai as a tool not just for individual support but also for the development of community and group work? - should districts look to the jobs of the future and/or corporations for how to design their curricula now? - How do we bridge the gap between academia and practice in education?
