Betr Holdings, Inc., a prominent player in the sports gaming and media industry, has recently secured $15 million in strategic equity financing, marking a significant milestone in its journey to accelerate growth across various divisions. This financing, obtained from a premier group of investors, brings Betr’s total funding to date to an impressive $100 million, with a valuation now standing at $375 million. The funding round, co-led by Harmony Partners and 10X Capital, saw participation from Betr’s major existing investors, including Fuel Venture Capital, Aliya Capital Partners, and Roger Ehrenberg/Eberg Capital, among others. This achievement follows a highly successful year for Betr in 2023, during which the company witnessed substantial growth in paying users and revenue, all achieved efficiently and profitably. Has anyone looked at how much money has flowed into the Sports industry the last decade? Have a look how much has been invested in times of recession. It's staggering. If you're in tune to it at all you know franchise valuations have skyrocketed the during this period. Putting that aside, have a gander into the different ventures popping up across the industry as a whole. They're everywhere. It's easy to see these investments have become a shiny way to diversify an investment portfolio. I'll stick with a golf example since it's where I'm most experienced. We know that the main goal of all these investments centers around the production and consumption of live content. It's how do we identify the new forms and place it where it grabs additional attention and consumption. These new forms may replace parts of the existing, but it ultimately expands resulting in increased revenues and valuations. Have a look at TMRW Sports and their new endeavor. Whether you think their product is going to be worthy or not. Have a look at their team, investors, and advisors. Mike McCarley, Rory McIlroy, TGR, Tiger Woods Ventures, and everyone behind them. Have a look at a list of investors provided in the link below. Their first round of funding was $14.7MM last October 2022 per Crunchbase. I'm sure they've added more rounds since. The list of private and institutional investors is stacked with the whose, who. Connect Ventures, 25madison, Fenway Sports Management (FSM),Steph Curry, etc. I have no idea if TGL's content is going to be gripping enough to grab consumer attention, what I do know is that they have all the resources to give it a good run. Sports as an asset class: worth the investment? We are seeing a lot of money being poured into the sports asset class around the world. To me it fits the criteria of an emerging asset class as most sports haven’t taken institutional capital in the past and therefore it’s ripe for disruption.
