Disclaimer : Giving a go at trying to theme my posts and give them more shape... first attempt incoming following a great panel discussion today.... 💡 Shifting Perspectives: Redefining Success Beyond Productivity Metrics Just attended a stimulating panel discussion at Running Remote, featuring our very own Michael Cockburn, where we delved deeply into the notion of success in the workplace. Key takeaways: 1️⃣ Productivity is VERY contextual to the role 2️⃣ Productivity should not be the first place we look when evaluating performance 3️⃣ The above is true whether you are fully remote, fully in office or somewhere in between! Something echoed by the panelists and resonating strongly with me is the need to reassess our fixation on traditional productivity metrics as the ultimate measure of success. Instead, we advocated for a paradigm shift towards valuing outcomes over mere outputs. In today's fast-paced landscape, it's all too easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of productivity metrics, equating busyness with effectiveness. However, as I've come to realise through my own experiences, this approach often fails to capture the true essence of success. As someone who values productivity metrics for strategic planning purposes, I firmly believe in their importance within the organisational framework (i.e I need to be able to have a way to estimate how big X department needs to be to satisfy future activity). However, while productivity metrics undeniably play a crucial role in business planning, they should not serve as the sole yardstick for measuring an employee's value or contribution. Instead, let's champion a culture that emphasises outcomes and shift our focus from the quantity of work to the quality of outcomes. Excited to continue the journey redefining success in terms of the outcomes we achieve, the value we create, and the positive impact we make – both within our organisation and beyond. #RedefiningSuccess #OutcomeOverOutput #ProductivityParadigmShift

Have you noticed when individual managers allow some employees to work remotely even when the company's official policy is that they have to be in the office? Or are you a manager that allows this and why? I want to talk to you! #journorequest

The average employee spends 3.6 hours(!) daily(!!) searching for information.* And IT professionals score the worst.. with a wooping 4.3 hours per day! - FYI that’s up to 21.5 hours a WEEK! 😶🔫 🔔 Alarm bells going off already?! 🔔 Now my first reaction would be to take this with a grain of salt.. but even if it would be half.. it would still be a depressing figure! So much time wasted.. time that could have been spend on things that áctually matter. But when you’re look at operations, what should you be looking at exactly? How can you reduce this number? Here's 4 things to get you started: ▶ Have clearly defined processes ▶ Use as LITTLE tools and software as possible - streamline your processes into 2-4 tools maximum ▶ Use tools and software that work together - aka who talk to each other through integrations and automations ▶ Create a solid knowledge base - with up to date and clear information (including your processes) so your employees can easily find what they need PS. I'd love to hear your insights about these statistics. Drop it in the comments 👇 -- I solve #collaboration bottlenecks for (tech) teams and small businesses. We have yet to build the future of work, but it should be co-created if its going to succeed. The journey continues in navigating the remote and hybrid work paradigm. Where do we do our best work? How do we connect with our colleagues? What’s the answer? The answer is, it’s different for each organization. The answer is, you need to start the conversation and continue it as you try new things. The answer rests in your people. If you are currently building the future of your organization, ask yourself - “do I know what my people think/want/need?” Maybe you can’t provide everything, but you can give people voice, and communicate with them what’s possible. By co-creating the future, you: 1. take the pressure off yourself to have all the answers 2. help people feel included in the process 3. increase the chances that your solutions will stick and that your people will be champions of the solutions How do you involve people in building the future of work at your organization? #change through #input

Some may say that the present environment in many organizations is not ideal for enabling teams to thrive. That is because of the focus is on re-structuring, cost-cutting or efficiency, and little else! Also, there is pressure on performance – with people being expected to do more with less. Paranoia about performance and the row about remote working probably doesn’t help either. #growthpitstop #performance #pressure https://ow.ly/cpKM50Q8Fc6
