As technology continues to become integral to the human condition and society at large, unprecedented issues arise – such as #AIethics, content moderation, and #privacy concerns. How do we foster productive action around these concerns, especially when areas like policy, government, and academia are involved? This week, Gather Dispatch hosts Jason Oberholtzer and Mimi Sun (MSL) Longo are joined by our own David Gaspar along with David Ryan Polgar, Founder and President of All Tech Is Human, a nonprofit organization dedicated to taking on technology and society’s intricate problems. David shares his own insights on some of today’s most pressing conversations in tech and the challenge of navigating issues as technology advances at a quicker pace than humans are able to react. “How do we lower the difference between the slowness of consideration, how we think about the norms of behavior, how we create laws around this, and the speed of innovation?” Click here to listen 👉 https://lnkd.in/eeAJBGhc

Virtual Strategist strategyandimpact.com | Online Strategic Planning Program thestrategicnonprofit.com
Worth a listen if you have, for even a moment, been concerned that your community isn't hitting the mark with caring for each other. "I want us to be able to get back to the space where we can have our imaginations and focus on our vision." - Vu Le "We need to see our vision as an achievable goal." - Hildy Gottlieb This conversation is a whole lot. It's a lot of passion, and disappointment, and hope, and anger, and expectation that we can have a better world. AND there are tangible ways to take a different approach to supporting each other in our communities. Ask different questions (check out their resources for examples). And plan back from your 20-year vision, instead of in incremental 2 year chunks. Yes to this. It's how I approach my strategic work. It's how we approached the development of The Strategic Nonprofit. What famous people do I want to have dinner with? These two for starters.
We had no idea where the conversation would go, except that we would enjoy ourselves and give people hope for what is possible. I think Vu Le and I accomplished both those things. Our goal was to introduce a radically inclusive, radically strength-based, and radically visionary approach to systems change. Because those of us working to create a better world deserve to have approaches that actually change things. Not just changing a government policy or two. Not just incremental baby-step results. True systems change, where we change the whole situation, the whole field. Where life is visibly better for everyone. That’s what Vu and I got to explore together. And you can watch / listen at the link below. We also added articles and other resources that we talked about in the video, including the chat (which went off-the-rails with brilliant commentary). Let me know what thoughts arise for you as you listen!

Fascinating presentation by Josh Glancy and panel discussion last night at the Engine Shed - Is tech addressing society's greatest challenges? - much food for thought triggered by Josh's article. https://lnkd.in/eWjQqN43 So much has been invested in tech, but what has been the focus? Making the consumer's life that bit easier; incremental improvements in efficiency; creating awesome social media apps… So why isn't big tech addressing the big stuff? Fascinating conversations around why tech creators are pushed towards the familiar, not the adventurous; how the system of investment prioritises shareholder interests; how success and decisions to invest are based on scalability and profit rather than impact. But big tech is just following the rules we have laid down - as panellist Charlie Mercer put it - we vote with our wallets in every decision we make. The panel and audience hope for equitable access to tech, inclusion and collaboration, but for these to be achieved, the pervading incentives need to change. So, it's about boldness - founders with confidence to stick to their original motivations; investors inputting for impact and purpose as well as profit… and it is happening all over the place; it's just not as visible as the big tech. Ultimately, the question is one of humanity, not tech. Can we collectively prioritise the right stuff? Can we spend and vote wisely…? https://lnkd.in/eEq_KjhK
