There are many ways you can contribute to ASF projects, and code is only one of them. Community or developer relations, events, working groups, marketing, etc. ASF projects take a lot of dedicated volunteer efforts beyond code contributions. How did you start contributing to ASF projects? Share your story and help inspire others to contribute to open source development. We want to showcase ALL the work and the people behind it. https://bit.ly/3seZbu6 #firstASFcontribution #opensource

I had the pleasure of attending and representing Tous Benevoles at the spring congress of the European Volunteer Center in Trento, European capital of volunteering 2024 with Isabelle Persoz our president. We met a multitude of organisations from European countries and all have shown how central volunteering is to cohesion, well-being, protection of the most vulnerable, and other causes. We were welcomed into associations, each more active than the last: food aid and the fight against food waste, protection of homeless people, cooperatives, help and empowerment of people with disabilities, etc. And we have seen that in Italy volunteers are at the heart of solidarity! As the European elections approach, we have focused on raising awareness among MPs and candidates of the importance of volunteering which embodies the European values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law, respect for human rights, including those of minorities. In particular, we believe that it is important to create an intergroup in the European Parliament to promote civic participation and volunteering in Europe, in particular exploring relevant legal frameworks and funding models to be implemented. This will highlight the valuable contributions of volunteers, and encourage volunteering by all, in the most inclusive way possible, as well as address the issue of youth volunteering, from a very young age, by including the validation of learning acquired during their volunteer experience. It is not too late to do so if you can contact one or more MEPs or candidates that you know so that the importance of volunteering is truly valued and promoted within the European Union, here is the link to the topics carried on this occasion by the European Volunteer Center: https://lnkd.in/eMayR_u4 You will find on p. 14 the possibility of supporting the CEV project as a candidate in the European elections. Simply send this support by email to the contact at the bottom of the document. #EuropeanElections2024 #Volunteering #CEV #Engagement

Few weeks ago, after a long break I revisited my passion of technical talk, started with Accessibility Nigeria community event where I spoke about how to build an accessible application. During my talk I highlighted how accessibility isn’t just for impaired users but for all, when you build an accessible application you are in turn making life easy for every users of your application including yourself. A very good example is when you pay attention to your color contrast which is a key part of an accessible application for visually impaired people, this in turn becomes beneficial for other users who can become temporarily visually impaired by using your application on a very bright day in the sun. In conclusion I emphasize that as a software engineer building accessible application starts with emphaty and it’s basically the foundation of a very accessible application. #a11y #techtalk #frontendengineering

Here are some areas under DevRel: - Advocacy: Bridging the gap between companies and developers and advocating for their needs - Community Building: Engaging with developers through events and forums. - Education: Creating tutorials, guides, and other educational content. - Program Management: Organizing developer events and workshops, managing developer relationships, and driving developer engagement initiatives. The focus on community governance in Meeds DAO is among its most appealing aspects. Users have a genuine voice in the direction and advancement of the platform through an open and inclusive decision-making process. In addition to giving users a sense of ownership, this democratic approach makes sure that Meeds DAO develops in accordance with the goals and values of its community as a whole. Meeds.io
