Guess what the last thing this bunch of lovely young people said to me that morning? “We only came in because you were coming in! Where’s the chocolate?” Cheeky devils. 😆 During the latest cohort of Group Technical Projects at Rolls-Royce, I’ve been working with this current group of Degree Apprentices (mixed with Grads) for their 12-week 'in business' programme. It’s fantastic to see the Graduates flexing their styles and mentoring and coaching the Degree Apprentices in their teams. We were all young and inexperienced at one time, weren't we? Supporting these lovely professionals (both Apprentices and Grads) during the early stages of their careers is so rewarding. (Even if they’re using me for chocolate!) Their thirst for knowledge and willingness to learn is really refreshing and genuinely inspiring – be that technical or behavioural. I guess it just goes to show what we may lack in experience, we can more than make up for it with our energy and enthusiasm. Organizations are reorganizing jobs to support internal rotation programs, lowering the age requirement for apprenticeships so that anyone can learn a new skill, and establishing shadowing programs so that seasoned employees can assist colleagues who are just starting out or in the middle of their careers in developing their expertise. Tetra Pak as a food development company uses rotation schemes in which about half of each product team is replaced every 18 months. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 💪 Consultants at TAG looking to advance their careers can take the next step as team managers, starting with an apprenticeship, a one-year period in which they can try out the responsibilities of a team manager on the job. What are those responsibilities? Our team managers support consultants on their projects, but also help TAG grow as whole by strengthening the recruitment team and spotting sales opportunities. Consultant Lies van den Broeck started the apprenticeship this year: “I love people management but was unsure whether other responsibilities would appeal to me. The great thing about the apprenticeship is that it gradually introduces you to the different facets of the role and that you can assess for yourself after a year whether you want to take it up.” Throughout the apprenticeship, she is coached by team managers such as Martin Camerman: “I did the apprenticeship last year, so I fully understand the questions or doubts you can have. TOUGH TIMES CREATE GOOD MAN 1. Over a year ago, I started my internship with Dominos for my Industrial Training and it didn't go well as I expected. 2. I was delayed one month away from the actual date, I went an interview for the halal intern at Dominos HQ back then with the HE, it's not really my dream but it's an honor to be able to work at the HQ. 3. At first all things going well, I've already done all the papers and got really excited to start, on the suppose week of industrial training, I was informed that I need to wait for the CEO approval. 4. After two weeks, the bad news came and I got declined, at the same time I need to find other place for my intern, I didn't think much instead of asking my District Manager at that time to continue my intern as Manager in Training . 5. I start my internship for the other two weeks on the early Ramadan, I really enjoyed the training except the least thing I enjoy is on the trainer, I hope that the trainer could handle their emotion towards the trainee because they need to treat us like real adult not kids. 6. I thought being MIT at that time is hard, but having the 3 years experience do get me finish the training by 5 weeks instead of 10, for me, it's important to have a productive intern that you know what you're doing instead of not learning much by sitting in the office. 7. I even sacrifice my first and second day raya at that time because I enjoy doing things that I love, when you do enjoy that, you 'tak berkira' in your time, energy and money, I don't want to be in place that I'll complain everything because I want to enjoy my journey as much that I want. 8. Being a manager you need to spend times a lot, mostly working from opening to closing, regardless the time, I even finish my research for final year project while working at the same time. 9. At some point in my life, I started to accept the faith that I will get stucked as a manager for long term, all out of sudden, Allah bestow me an interview for Huckleberry, the moment that I almost stopped believing for what I have been dreaming for. 10. Yet, here I am, I believe that the journey that Allah gives to us make us who we are today, no matter how hard life is going, just carry on and keep believing that Allah will gives better in the future, just put on that effort that you enjoyed even people didn't recognise your work, it's all are part of a process.

The on-the-job training programs are intensive, sometimes yearslong paths for Whole Foods employees, but there’s a prize at the end: expert-level certification and expanded growth opportunities.
