Increasingly, no expense is being spared by the wealthy when it comes to tackling problems such as finding a £3,000 nightdress or brainstorming a name.

Today is Mother's Monday, a day to celebrate all those Moms working outside of the home and to challenge us all to reimagine the relationship between work and motherhood so that ambition and caregiving can co-exist. Today is also almost exactly 8 years since I wrote an open letter to Heathrow Airport after security threw out nearly 300 ounces of frozen breastmilk I had painstakingly pumped throughout a two week business trip across Europe. It was a defining moment in my commitment to advocate for working caregivers, and especially birthing parents, who face unique obstacles in both advancing and remaining in their careers while trying to start and support their families. In the years since my experience, it has been incredible to see the advances in supporting working mothers across the board: ▶ Vivvi expanding childcare options to meet parents where they are and together with Lauren Smith Brody, putting the numbers behind the ROI on supporting working parents ▶ Parentaly and Allison Whalen improving the journey to and from parental leave for parents and teams alike ▶ The Mom Project and Path Forward.ORG expanding employment opportunities for those returning from a career pause to care for their families ▶ Reshma Saujani, Moms First, and Chamber of Mothers advocating at all levels of government for equal pay, universal preschool and paid parental leave ▶ Paula Faris and CARRY Media™ , amplifying the stories of working moms ▶ New employer benefits like the SNOO bassinett from Happiest Baby (the maker of SNOO) and breastmilk shipping from Milk Stork (I REALLY would have loved this one!) ▶ Professor Marina Cooley speaking unapologetically about shifting work/life balance and embracing the whole human in the corporate world It is action and voices like these that will start to narrow the gap in upward mobility and pay inequalities for working moms and caregivers. Yet it is also important to remember: 🔺 No amount of benefits and policies can compensate for culture 🔺 There are many reasons, including stigma and perceived pressure, why more than 70% of fathers in the U.S. return to work less than two weeks after having a baby, and why despite taking leave on average more often than men, a higher percentage of women also forgo taking leave when it is needed. Leveling the professional playing field for all caregivers requires comprehensive changes in not only policy and benefits, but how we work and design our future workplace models. As we celebrate working moms today, it’s a great opportunity to ask ourselves as leaders, how am I creating a culture that empowers my employees - mothers and non-caregivers alike - to thrive at work and at home in every stage of life? https://lnkd.in/gRGqNQVM

Many disabled, especially neurodivergent, employees I talk to right now are more stressed than ever about getting through the next couple months at work. Unmet workplace needs are never more evident than during this season. The holidays add extra stress for most, but can be debilitating for some. You deserve to have your needs met at all times, but especially when you need it most. If you know you need accommodations, but are unsure how to ask for them, or are receiving pushback from your employer, I am here to support. I offer accommodation consultations, and have subsidized pricing for those who need it. If even that price is unaffordable, don’t be afraid to ask for a different arrangement. You deserve to have your needs met in the workplace. And I want to help you do that. (Because it’s a giving season, I just decided that the first five people who book can get a second consultation, too. For yourself or to gift to someone else.)

It's the first week back at work for me after two full weeks off over the festive period. I don't often completely switch off from my business but this time I really did kick back and relax. Getting back into work mode after a recharging break is not always easy. You feel a bit rusty and it takes a few days to get back up to speed. Maybe you've experienced this too? So imagine what it's like for new mums who have been off for a number of months, maybe a year or more, on maternity leave. Life has changed drastically and for this period away from work, mum life has revolved entirely around a little person who's every need has been attended to, no matter what time of day or night. Heading back to work after being out of the work-day routine and disconnected from colleagues and projects for so long can feel incredibly daunting. In fact, it might even feel like an impossible task, physically and emotionally. If you're coming to the end of maternity leave or you're just back at work, you're not alone if you're feeling overwhelmed and a roller coaster ride of emotions. Check out my free training session for my top tips to support you navigating these next steps of your mum journey: https://lnkd.in/dQNxJ-j9 If you're a business or HR leader keen to offer more support to your working mum population (cos let's face it, you can't afford to lose these amazing talented women from your business), let's talk https://lnkd.in/dryfCtjP #maternity #coaching #womenshealth #futureofwork #workplacewellbeing #womensempowerment #mumlife #mumsinbusiness

We cover all this in today's Kampfire newsletter: https://lnkd.in/guhVA6FD For some of us, a decision to take time off and ‘turn off’ work-mode may feel easy and natural. As we come to the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week, Brittany Burton wants to know: do you have a policy for miscarriage leave? As the taboos around health and wellbeing slowly continue to shed their stigma, this is helping bring to light more sensitive topics that employers should begin to consider in order to best support and optimize their employees. Understanding the effects that a miscarriage can have on all parties involved and having a policy that can be referred to in this event can prove very helpful in supporting staff through such a difficult time. #support #wellbeing #mentalhealth #breakthesilence https://lnkd.in/dX48SdX8
