As a recruiter, there are some roles where you give a standard pitch to the candidates. Introduction calls can kind of look quite similar and as time goes on, you get less excited. Occasionally, you get the kind of role where, as time goes on and you speak to more candidates, you get more excited, and the pitch changes constantly. I don't post about roles on LinkedIn too often, but considering this one is quite cool, I have to share it. We're looking for Brand Partnerships Directors across the UK, East Coast, and Chicago to sell in-game advertising campaigns. With revenue spend now much higher on gaming than music or TV (yup, you read that right), this is a whole new vertical to promote your brand. To apply, check out the links in the first comment. Not a salesperson but curious to learn more about the concept? Send me a message. https://lnkd.in/eUnngtBS #ingameadvertising #advertisingsales #brandmarketing

“Power of the pen” is a phrase that carried throughout many generations when describing the weight of words — especially regarding journalism. As technology advanced, some of that message became watered down leading to botched strategies and uncalculated risks. Writers, editors, reporters, multimedia employees, etc. are the heart and soul. The relationship created with their audiences can make for a foolproof marriage. These journalism companies that are folding or making major layoffs, can quickly look back to see where it all went wrong. I’ve said for many years working in marketing to know your audience. Internally, know your employees. Results will follow. Ambition and success have no bounds.

Much has been discussed recently about streaming platforms taking on more and more high profile sporting events. Peacock broadcasting a NFL playoff game, Netflix streaming the live (and wild) Roast of Tom Brady, and now, Amazon potentially vying for NBA regular season and playoff games. No matter where you stand on linear television vs streaming services, one thing is clear - the consumption of sports content has and will continue to evolve rapidly. These platforms have not only expanded access but have also redefined how we watch, offering us flexibility and unparalleled convenience. And just as streaming has transformed the way we watch live sports, believe it or not, there's a parallel shift in how organizations are now approaching hiring - with personalization, precision and continuous engagement. And if we, as recruiters, follow these basic tenants, the goal won't end up being to just fill a job. We'll bring career fulfillment to a person that makes a long term professional and personal impact on an organization of other people. So, like it or not, we evolve. And just as sports fans have moved beyond traditional TV schedules to embrace a more personalized viewing experience, so too must companies evolve their hiring strategies to secure the top-tier talent necessary for competitive advantage and constant growth.

This hasn't been the easiest year, as far as my career goes. I felt like I was on top in January, celebrating nearly 8 years at GameSpot as a journalist before I was a casualty of mass layoffs from Fandom. I made a tough decision: to switch careers at the age of 41. I had a few gigs as a copywriter, and I didn't feel like it was for me. Then, I was offered a communications contract job through a friend's sister at Meow Wolf. This changed everything for me. I was given the tools to succeed in this profession through some fantastic coworkers and a great leader with Didi Bethurum. Every single person I came in contact with at the company welcomed me with open arms and taught me what I need to know about this profession. It was a giant learning curve, as I was a journalist for over a decade, and, but there was never a point where I didn't feel like part of the team. So thanks Kati Murphy for opening the door, and thanks to Connor Gray, Erin Barnes, Gleana Albritton, Dave Jasmon, Monique Griffin, Phil Jones, and Didi for working with me and taking the time to get me on the same page with the rest of Meow Wolf. I love it here. Change is terrifying, but I'm glad that I had so many good, talented, brilliant people to teach me the ropes when I was at a point where I didn't know where to go next in my career. You're all so rad. #careerdevelopment #changingcareers #writing #copywriting #communications
