With all 8 episodes released & Audacy making this awesome trailer, I had to post once more about "Who Killed The Video Star? The Story of MTV." It reached all the way to #7 on the Apple Podcasts charts and each episode only takes ~15 minutes to listen to at 2x audio speed. If you only have time for 1 episode, please make it Episode 8, the finale which details MTV's implosion over the last decade into endless "Ridiculousness" reruns & the current "Media Apocalypse" we find ourselves in: https://lnkd.in/gGYEpjbN

I'm excited and fired up with hot takes these days. Here's one: the future is human voice audio. I'm not talking about more podcasts; but rather more voices from more people in more communities, unaccompanied by video, on more platforms, in more media, in more journalism and in more podcasts. In this era of trans-formative information technology, where our voices are capable of traveling farther, faster, and our thoughts are (arguably) more informed, than ever before, we hear fewer individual sentiments from individual people inside and outside our own communities. Listening to someone's spoken sentiments is powerful. Hearing someone’s voice, whether you see them or not, is fundamentally a more active connective exercise than watching a video of someone doing or even saying something. Whether or not I'm onto something with this scorching hot take on the future of media and advertising, I personally want to hear more voices from more people in more stuff.

This week the podcast in which I'm showrunner and audio designer turns 1 year old. This is "Creepy en español", a horror anthology podcast that brings week by week a new universe of horror, told by professional actresses and actors. Producing audio-nightmares week by week has been a delight! But at the same time, it takes stamina. It's the same slow process as going to the gym. My skills as an audio designer have improved tons, but I'm also learning to master patience. Patience to grow an audience and patience to keep learning the new rules of the ever-changing podcast industry. Is Creepy in Spanish sustainable 365 after its launch? Not yet, but has it built a loyal audience? Yes. Audience that writes their comments week after week, people who are eager to listen to the new episodes as soon as they come out, and this is one of the main reasons why we keep doing it. Because consistency and patience are two key factors in this and other content industries. The following video is a special episode that drops tomorrow in the "Creepy en español" feed, where we celebrate the milestone of turning 1 year old.

#WeekendThoughts - do you listen to podcasts (for work or for fun - or both)? Interesting article from The Wall Street Journal (in the weekend print edition) about how the U.S. podcast market has evolved over the last decade. "Now, podcasting is turning into an industry of megastars who command the most money and the biggest audiences. There are still nearly 450,000 active shows that have published recent episodes, according to Podcast Industry Insights. But the top 25 podcasts reach nearly half of U.S. weekly listeners, according to Edison Research. The top talents have tours, merchandise and multiyear deals in the nine figures. Big advertisers want in." https://lnkd.in/e9DpuJBc

Enjoying any summer movies, shows, podcasts, or books? We have a recommendation for you! Check out Talking Accessibility, a series of conversations between Chief Accessibility Officer Stephanie Cadieux and people with lived experience. You can find the entire series so far – six videos and one feature article – on our web page: https://ow.ly/9psW50SJneo Sharing stories and experiences are powerful ways to create change, and we love the diverse perspectives offered in this series! Five stars, especially if you’re looking for examples of accessibility in action! I got to speak to one of the smartest operational development folks in podcasting, Hassan Chaudhry, on Podcast Perspectives. Hassan hails from Blanchard House, HBO Max, and before that the world of private equity. In other words, he was a big spreadsheet guy that graduated into creative development for some of the most exciting companies in podcasting. He puts on a masterclass in how big companies (and solo creators) should be thinking about podcasts beyond the podcast universe. Give this one a listen to learn more about where your show can fit into the broader media ecosystem. We'll work on the video thumbnails for next time ;)
Who decides which podcasts should be adapted for the big screen? This week on Podcast Perspectives, Jeff Umbro speaks to Hassan Chaudhry, the head of partnerships & strategy at Blanchard House, a UK-based independent podcast company. The company produces cinematic audio stories with the goal of selling the IP for film and television. In the episode, Hassan discusses his path to Blanchard House by way of HBO Max and the world of finance. Listen to hear more about... 🎤 What he learned at Max about making successful companion podcasts to popular TV shows 🎤 What prompted his career pivot from finance to audio, and why he chose to eventually join Blanchard House because of their team of incredible journalists 🎤 His advice for independent creators who are open to expanding to film and TV but want to retain their own IP Watch the full episode here: https://buff.ly/45YWn3U

Our new flagship version--Media Bias Chart 11.0--just dropped! This one features 157 news sources, including 12 new never-rated-before websites, 20 podcasts, and 18 news shows and networks. We produce an updated flagship version of the Media Bias Chart twice per year, in January and August. Why do we call it the flagship? Ad Fontes Media now rates more than 3,000 news sources for bias and reliability—way too many for one chart. So every 6 months we unveil a new chart that shows the media landscape with a mix of new sources as well as others we’ve been rating for years. It includes a sample of sources we've rated across websites, TV/video, and podcast/audio news/news-like sources. Some sources do change over time, so keep an eye out for those! Download your free licensed copy here: https://lnkd.in/gPSahJx9 And search all our rated sources on our Interactive Media Bias Chart here: https://lnkd.in/gtg3aBrr

We Help Corporate and Military Teams Defeat Busyness ✦ Stop Wasting Precious Time on Email, Meetings & Wasteful Work and Re-Invest time in What Really Matters ✦ Measurable Impact on the Bottom Line
Six reasons to only use voice-to-text narration while you're alone: * Other people think you're talking to them. * Other people that you're near cannot talk while you're transcribing. * The transcription picks up the radio, podcasts, and your children fighting over a pop tart. * Saying the word period and comma out loud is annoying. * Saying question mark out loud is even more annoying. * Efficiency is not always the most important thing. #reallife #digitallife #iphonecivility
