This is sometimes hard for the beneficiaries to see. They don't think or feel as if anyone is giving them a break, their life is tough! And it's likely, they are not receiving any overt or specific advantages. But being White does have its advantages in America. The biggest one is 'The Benefit of the Doubt'. When White, all assumptions about you, on first sight, are generally neutral to positive, unless your overall appearance and demeanor scream otherwise. This is not so much for non-white appearing individuals, who often are adjudged in negative ways, or not extended goodwill as a natural right. This even happens between non-whites who will make assumptions about other non-whites. Or treat whites differently, as if they did not have to prove credibility as they are white! Watch how different groups are watched and treated in retail outlets. If you don't see this or understand it, you should take the time to watch for it. We have a serious set of issues to solve in this country. We need to work as one people, all treated equally, with courtesy, respect and goodwill. #whiteprivilege #racism #zerbonia #antiracism
White Privilege in America has always been a reality. Up until the Civil Rights Acts of the mid-1960's it was the law. Since then, the actions of White Privilege have receded from public view but exist, nonetheless. In many ways, it was/is like a special club card, that when it was presented, you would receive exclusive benefits. But the reality was you were only getting what you should have gotten, those without the 'card' got less and were treated much more shabbily! We think everyone should get what they are due, with courtesy, respect and goodwill. We think it is the right of a United States Citizen. We all need to be treating each other as we would have ourselves treated. It IS the Golden Rule! #whiteprivilege #whitesupremacy #racism #antiracism #owm #oldwhitemen #civilrights #civilrightsmovement #courtesy #respectforall #allmeansall

🎉 Happy Presidents' Day from all of us at ALCHAER LAW FIRM. While the path to the Oval Office may seem distant, it's important to remember that every citizen holds the power to shape our republic. 🇺🇸 🚀 Did you know: The youngest elected president was Theodore Roosevelt, taking office at 42, and the oldest person inaugurated president was Joe Biden, at age 78! This serves as a powerful reminder that leadership can bloom at any age, and the potential to make a difference is always within reach. 🎊 ⚖ As lawyers, we believe in empowering individuals to make their voices heard. Through legal advocacy, we strive for justice, protect rights, and empower individuals. This pursuit, regardless of scale, echoes the spirit of leadership and service embodied by the office of the President. 👩⚖️👨⚖️ This Presidents' Day, let's rekindle the spirit of civic engagement: Register to vote and encourage others to do the same. 🗳 Contact your elected officials and share your concerns. ☎ Get involved in your community and advocate for causes you believe in. ✅ 💪 Together, we can build a stronger, more just nation. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 #PresidentsDay #LawyersForJustice #CivicEngagement #LawyersAsLeaders #lawfirm #leadership #inspiration

The transition from being an international human rights judge and President of the European Court of Human Rights to BigLaw Partner at Gibson Dunn has been an interesting and exhilarating journey over the past 11 months. Thank you Charlotte Johnstone at Law.com International for interviewing me and giving me the opportunity to talk about my life in the law, the very important work of the Court and the thrills of private practice where I get to work with my clients on cutting edge legal issues! #internationalarbitration #tech #eulaw #esgstrategy #artificialintelligence #digitalrights #humanrights #echr #businessandhumanrights #cjeu #internationallaw #climatechange

Justice is a universal value. However, due to demographic, cultural and other co-existing values that emerge on the basis of two sides, a usual value of justice usually a one-sided opinion only. When these one-sided opinions clashes, which justice as value must emerge in victorious? Supposedly the value of justice as endorsed by the society, as a whole, being generally accepted as just. Well, when society changes, the value of justice as generally accepted, universal value also change. But what if a universal accepted value on justice is clear, but still cannot be upheld as one?

It’s good to see renewed interest in constitutional reform. The Civil Rights Act probably should be codified as a Constitutional Amendment. And we need to bring our interest in civil liberties and privacy into the digital age with new Amendments. #ethics #government #AI #publicpolicy #civilliberties #civilrights
Yesterday, President Biden visited the LBJ Presidential Library to commemorate the anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. Biden delivered a keynote speech on the enduring legacy of our namesake, Lyndon B. Johnson. We proudly honor LBJ's lasting contributions to civil rights and social justice.
