This goes without saying for EA coverage as well. There is work that will be required from the company and then depending on the executive, there will be PA work as well. Regarding all work, get a really clear idea of what you are signing up for. There will always be reasonable exceptions and additions to any working expectations but make sure it's clear what the overall expectations are. Know whether or not you can handle working for that type of person, whatever type they may be. I've been getting many calls from the press this week asking for my opinion on the Robert DeNiro lawsuit with his personal assistant. My comment has been the same for the past 16 years of being an agent: If you are going to hire a personal assistant, there should be a detailed job description. All the cards should be laid on the table. No stone should be left unturned when it comes to discussing duties. If, by chance, things come up that are not part of the job scope, then talk about it. It's called "personal" assistant for a reason. The job is night-and-day different than an executive assistant who works in a corporate office, so just know that. Thumbs up👍if you think it's a good idea to have a detailed job description. 'nuff said.

Shadowing a senior business affairs executive as an assistant for 1 year will teach the the verbal lexicon and speed that you need to do this job right... I know A LOT of smart attorneys who want to practice entertainment law. Help has finally arrived!!! 😅 I’m really excited to announce that Lauren Victoria Topping has joined us as Executive Assistant! Lauren will be sorting me out (she certainly has her work cut out 🤣) and helping to make the business run more efficiently – both our Thornton and Kendal office. She’ll also be part of our newly formed management team. We had 235 applicants for this role, but Lauren’s attitude and skills clearly shone through and fit perfectly with our values and vision. I actually fought against hiring for this role for some time, as I wasn’t convinced I needed an executive assistant, but it soon became clear that I desperately needed help, particularly since acquiring Ingalls! (extra slice of humble pie for me... 🥧 ) Giving up control is not easy when you’re used to controlling everything, but it’s essential for growth.
