It’s all too easy to forget that philanthropy doesn’t always mean financial donations.  Sometimes your time is just as valuable.  Take Park Run for example.  A fantastic organisation bringing people together to run, jog, or walk, 5km every Saturday. With weekly runs in 22 countries, it’s an incredible way to feel part of a community. And it is run entirely by volunteers... I’m one of them.  That means I get to see, first-hand, the impact of being part of something. I get to see the community expand. And I get to see each runner grow in confidence week in week out. I only get to see these things because I give my time. Volunteering can be just as valuable (for you and the organisation) as other types of philanthropy. Today is National Day of Giving also known as Giving Tuesday! Celebrated every Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday celebrates generosity and the giving spirit. Today is a great day to focus on those who need our help like charities, families, and community centers. There are a multitude of ways that we all can celebrate based on our individual means. You can join the global movement by making blankets, donating, setting up collections, and volunteering. This year, ECCO is continuing in our people-first mindset, EC[COnnection], by contributing to local utility customer assistance programs. For this week's South Dakota Gives contest, they have asked us to provide them with two good reasons for participating in South Dakota's Day of Giving and two good reasons for making a gift to our organization for South Dakota's Day of Giving. Reasons for participation: 1. South Dakota's Day of Giving provides a wonderful avenue for the Furniture Mission to spread awareness of our organization to both donors and families in need of our services. 2. South Dakota's Day of Giving also promotes volunteer involvement, allowing us to make 14 furniture deliveries and serve 10 families onsite on November 28th! That is 24 families helped in just one day! Reasons to consider giving to our organization for South Dakota's Day of Giving: 1. Gifts to our organization allow us to continue offering all household necessities completely free of charge. 2.
