Today, U.S. Soccer unveils the Soccer Forward Foundation, our FIFA World Cup 2026™ - Canada, Mexico and the United States legacy project. Our goal is to make soccer accessible to everyone, everywhere in the U.S. by driving grassroots participation, inspiring the next generation, and providing essential resources. "Hosting the World Cup comes with a responsibility to ensure that soccer is accessible to all," said U.S. Soccer CEO JT Batson. "This foundation will open doors for countless individuals, breaking down barriers and fostering a love for the game nationwide. We believe soccer should be available, safe, and fun for everyone, creating a lasting impact for generations." » soccerforward.org

I love this mission, yet there is a fundamental flaw in the US where soccer is, unfortunately, more a business than it is a game, a sport, or an art. It’s difficult to “see soccer everywhere” when it costs hundreds or thousands of dollars per year for kids to play on travel teams. I read another comment regarding the high cost of coaching licenses. Now, the US is hosting major events multiple years in a row, but those events are not accessible for most. The Copa America Final ticket prices start above $1,000 and sadly, most games throughout the tournament have featured empty stands. No leading footballing nation around the world has this problem. As an ex-player, youth coach, and Argentine immigrant to the US, I’ve witnessed first hand how dramatically different the two models are. I’ll be curious to follow along this project and would love nothing more than to see whether these barriers to entry will be addressed to support access for all.

Hopefully this will include lower fees for coaching education. The current pricing for coaching licenses is too much which hampers players who do not have the funds to travel to clubs with better coaching.

Will there be grants for coaches to provide lower or free costs to their team regardless of players income level? Currently grants for players at clubs, if they have any, are for low income only. If the mission is “to ensure that soccer is accessible to all” grants should not be income based but based on providing a collective team a discount on their fees. Historically, in clubs that have grants it is the players of families with means that pay extra to pay for others. That’s not accessiblilty it’s a tax.

This is a very good mission but I think just as Andreas Gschaider as said you need an hype and to be honest no HBCU plays Male soccer some don’t even see it as a sport because anytime i mention soccer people look at me weirdly. The Habit of people paying to play or having post padlocked as if it would be stolen is outrageous. I’ve said it many time if you don’t know the game you can never understand the spirit of the game because when people stop seeing soccer as a sport and seeing it more as a culture them it will get the hype. You just wait till 2026 WC and you see Americans not even going to watch the USMNT but Mbappe instead 😂

Absolutely love this, when traveling to Europe for soccer in college, soccer was a universal language, we would join pick up games without speaking the same language verbally, but were able to communicate through our love and common knowledge of the game. Everywhere you looked, kids were playing in the streets, parks, schools...etc. I love that the United States is making this a priority. I have life long friends that I call family due to the mutual love and devotion we shared to the game. Thank you for giving other people the opportunity to do so!

We would love to be a part of this ❤️⚽️ Soccer for everyone. Soccer everywhere. For players. For coaches. For teams. Be fearless. Be focused. B42 https://youtu.be/yk4Hu9ojIdE?si=DXlL4Mj_zcZbfrZc

Actions speak louder…The shift in culture must be the priority. I do hope change will happen because it is needed. Our kids deserve better!

love the focus on making soccer accessible... so important for people to be able to play a sport and be on a team.
