Getting access to quality medical care is WAYYYYYYYYYY too difficult. I grew up in a VERY small town - about as small as it gets with 400 people. Most of the economy is centered around agriculture - whether that be a family farm or farm equipment assembly at a local plant. My dad drove to 6 different hospitals in the area, each about an hour out, on a weekly basis (sometimes multiple a day) to provide surgical care to these very remote populations. Many patients with chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. The closest specialty care hospital or clinic was AT LEAST 1 hour away. This means these patients had to wait THAT much longer to get the care they desperately needed - whether from my dad or another specialist. This means there was a risk that they would end up in the ER, have to travel by helicopter to the closest hospital, and THEN finally get the treatment they need. Just think how expensive that all is for both the patient AND the employer. And all because of where the person lives. We've arrived to a new era where people don't have to wait to have help to start addressing their medical problems via access to virtual care, education, coaching and other features to help mitigate medical problems as well as manage them. This has the potential to help employees avoid a risky surgery and/or a costly trip to the ER. Still, employers don't always have a gauge on whether a chosen employee benefit is meeting the needs of all of their employees, like those working at a location in a remote area. Artemis by Nomi Health, the company I work for, is now offering a new platform called Artemis SDOH Insights so employers can start targeting and taking care of their employees' health, regardless of their location, income, etc and Artemis Console to help you see whether an employee benefit is actually working. Getting ALL people access to quality healthcare is no small feat. But Artemis by Nomi Health is giving employers and state governments the tools they need to start with their employees, so their employees can be healthier, happier and more balanced in and outside of work.
