The summer movie season keeps on rolling in theaters this month with the likes of “Despicable Me 4” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.” But over on streaming platforms, some giant tentpoles and acclaimed indies from earlier in 2024 are gearing up to make their own debuts. Warner Bros., for example, is launching “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” on Max after a successful box office run with $570 million worldwide. The A24 queer crime thriller “Love Lies Bleeding,” which stars Kristen Stewart in an acclaimed performance, will also stream on Max. Perhaps the biggest new streaming offering of July is Netflix’s “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” the long-awaited fourth installment in Eddie Murphy’s comedy franchise. What are the Educational, Health, or Economic benefits to the Players and their Families for his participation in any additional “NON-SCHOLARSHIP” private third-party postseason football games that pay the Universities and the Conferences for the use of their free labor to put on these highly profitable Bowl events. These additional 1-5 POSTSEASON games are also over the Players’ 12 game athletic scholarship agreement? The answer is ZERO! Our Proposal offers Major Benefits in all three Categories to the Players and their Families! The roughly 7,800 Bowl eligible Scholarship Football Players are owed Hundreds of Millions of dollars from this year’s Media contract that uses the Players’ Name, Image, and Likeness NIL without any equitable financial consideration to the Players or their Families! This lost Money could have a major impact on these Players lives, the lives of their current and future family members for generations? We do not support, or agree with the House vs NCAA Settlement or the current covert attempts to extend and expand this current Antitrust Cartel exploiting our young mostly minority FB &BB labor that the US Supreme Court and Federal District Court have recently struck down as illegal and implausible.

🔪Crime, 🚀Sci-Fi and 😂Comedy dominate 2023’s global streaming bill of $42bn! Streamers will spend $12bn+ on Crime & Thriller in 2023. The major global streaming platforms (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, The Walt Disney Company Disney+, Apple TV+, Paramount+ and HBO Max/Max) will invest $42bn in original and acquired film and TV content this year, the latest Ampere Analysis forecasts suggest. This marks a slower rate of growth of 7% year-on-year, compared to the 24% growth in streaming spending witnessed in 2022. High-budget Originals in key scripted genres including Crime & Thriller, Sci-Fi & Fantasy and Comedy continue to be the primary drivers of growth.

Here’s a random business idea that I wish could happen. I love the theater. Going to it, buying popcorn, the whole thing. But lately, there just aren’t enough movies to make it interesting. And it feels like any more, Hollywood only makes blockbuster type movies. (And I get the financial reasons to do so) But what if the streaming services like Netflix, Amazon, CBS (paramount+) and NBC (peacock), would allow theaters to show some of their original content in theaters? Those original movies they’re beginning to make more and more of. I’d pay a discounted movie ticket, say $5, to watch a movie that I already had in streaming at home, just to see it in the theater. Even better, if I didn’t have that particular service, but wanted to see that “one movie”, now I could. In a fun setting. If I were them, I’d make my entire original library available to theaters, for a percentage of ticket sales. And since I’d probably buy popcorn at their ridiculous markup, it feels like a win for the theater. I miss the feel good “B movie” experience in theater. I know it no longer makes financial sense for Hollywood to make them. But these streaming services can. I’m sure Hollywood would have a fit over the idea. Would you see a streaming-original movie in the theater? #SaveTheTheater #randomthoughts

Yesterday was a big day for the future of data transparency in streaming. Netflix, for the first time, released a comprehensive report of what people watched on their platform over a six month period. Y’all this is huge. The release sets the expectation that we should see one of these reports from Netflix every 6 months. 👏🏽 The excel includes: • Hours viewed for every title — original and licensed — watched for over 50,000 hours • Premiere date for any Netflix TV series or film • Whether a title was available globally This is really exciting and imo it is a step in the right direction. I can’t help but to think that if WGA and SAG AFTRA didn’t strike this year, this wouldn’t have been possible. ✊🏽 Rising tide lifts all boats, y’all. Here is the link to the report: https://lnkd.in/gygHtaWu

This is our first peep behind the curtain of online streaming. Despite the level of detail these online services must possess on its audiences viewing habits, data has been notoriously scant. The excuse from the streaming services has been that the details are çommercial-in-confidence. However the cultural and financial impact of these juggernauts on screen production makes it imperative that they are open to question. The second half of the press conference was devoted to questions from the press to Netflix management. Let's hope this is the start. https://lnkd.in/erek8u8P
