UNWASTING POTENTIAL: MarkTech reframed as CustomerTech - shifts focus towards enabling building customer lifetime value as an asset. According to analysts, many companies in 2024 are keen to invest in MarTech generally to drive revenue growth, better manage cost, and to automate repetitive tasks - compensating for shrinking workforces, increasing labor costs, and talent scarcity . But what is the best way to realize these business outcomes? And how to focus these tech resources towards building real value? And how to figure out which technologies are the best fit? The Martech space technology landscape has become complex and becoming even more complex with a flood of new AI applications. #CIOs #CMO's #CDO's and #CEO's are challenged to identify the best options to keep, replace and/or and which new ones to onboard. And on what basis to make these choices? MarTech visionary, Anita Brearton h co-founder of CabinetM, made a profound observation in the article below inspired the book A Small Book on Customer Technology, written by Frans Riemersma. By shifting how we look at MarTech, and seeing it as CustomerTech two other perspective shifts can happen: 1. Budgeting benefit. Reframing "Marketing Value"towards “Customer Value” changes the whole level of conversations around resource allocations, especially during times of budget cuts. It becomes an investment, an asset allocation discussion, rather than purely a cost center. 2. Strategic shift. "Customer technology" puts the focus on enabling a customer-centric approach at the heart of the techstack strategy. Instead of inside-out, its an outside in perspective as a clear criteria on which to base process design and enabling #MarTech stacks choices. Let's applying this thinking to a sector in which I am somewhat familiar: #automative OEMs. Most are shifting to a direct sales model over the last couple of years. And in many cases this includes owning their own dealerships. This typically requires a very different GTM design and customer engagement strategy with new layers of complexity. Acting as a Dealer requires a shift away from selling a new car every 3-5 years, to managing customer's mobility needs over a lifetime: - new cars - used cars - aftersales - financing - trade-ins. What this requires is a customer-centric approach, MarTech stack, and process design that caters to managing each customer's lifecycle over years, creating personalized customer experiences seamlessly across these processes, to lock-in loyalty over time. So imagine when #CustomerTech choices based on their capabilities to contribute marketing engagement, intelligence and delivery experiences that build and optimize lifetime "customer-value" a as long term investment asset, and not just a cost.
