As we celebrate Pride Month, I’ve been reflecting on why diversity and inclusion in the workplace remain such important topics and what they mean to me personally.
I believe that one of the strongest biases that we need to overcome is the “like-me” bias, to ensure that we surround ourselves with different perspectives and experiences. Ensuring diversity at the forefront means giving everyone equal opportunity regardless of their gender, background, sexual orientation - which is fair and results in hiring and promoting the very best people.
It’s also been proven over and over again (e.g., https://lnkd.in/eECSZDXX) that a diverse team outperforms an homogeneous one, all other things equal. So, promoting diversity means forming a stronger, better performing team…and inclusion? We should start from inclusion. Promoting diversity in a non-inclusive environment is a recipe for higher attrition at best and harassment at worst.
That’s why I’m proud that being part of ABB is to be part of an organization committed to supporting LGBTQ+ communities by creating an inclusive environment that brings people together. It’s our duty to foster a sense of belonging so that our colleagues can bring their authentic selves to work every day.
There is still work to be done but I remain committed today and every day to ensuring that everyone can #ComeAsYouAre - https://lnkd.in/ekp5nSGH#PrideMonth#Pride2024#Diversity#Inclusion#LGBTTQ+ #Equality#ABB#ProcessIndusties#PulpandPaper
Celebrating Unity in Diversity
"Laundry is the only thing that should be separated by color." 🧦✨
Let's embrace the wisdom in this simple yet powerful statement. In a world full of vibrant hues, diversity is our strength. Just like a load of laundry is enriched by its various colors, our lives are enriched by the tapestry of different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives.
🌍 Let's celebrate unity in diversity, appreciating the beauty that arises when we come together, each unique thread contributing to the richness of the whole. In our shared human experience, let's strive for understanding, empathy, and a world where differences are not dividers but enhancers.
Tag someone who appreciates the beauty in diversity, and let's spread the message of unity!

I was recently asked: How does Celex incorporate Diversity and Inclusivity into the Ensemble?
Well...
Our first step was a structure for Equality. The Celex Ensemble is for all cultures to be seen as we build a global community for wedding excellence and provide unique positions within each country. If you're in the wedding industry, want to represent your country/culture/style and would like to join our community then do get in touch.
The second step is building/educating our team, ensuring hires not only understands the cultural and ethic differences from certain events but also experiences and can relate to them.
The third step is to provide a stage to the underrated, the upcoming and the outliers (the non commerical artists).
The 4th step is creating communication channels that can present advise/criticism and build a team structure that could effectively analyse and action this.
I'm sure there may be many other steps on the way and we are always open to learn.
P.S. For comedy purposes the picture below is of myself; a man inclusive of bristish ancestry, indian parents, raised in the middle east, a portuguese citizen, now living in London and with a belly full of diversified cuisines.

Reflection Fridays_A world so hateful 🌍
It's Friday! ✨
And the rainbow month is just around the corner. 🌈 This week I was listening to one of my favourite songs (https://lnkd.in/e2_3iBss). There is this sentence that says: " A world so hateful, they rather die than be who they are"
Do you know how it feels when you know a family member tried to kill themselves because of fear and self-hate of being part of the LGBTQ+ community ❓
I do 😔
If you don't, just imagine one call where they tell you that your sister, borther, cousin, aunt, uncle, you name it, is in hospital after a suicide atteemp. And know that the reason is the fear of hate and rejection for who they are.
But "Love is patient, love is kind", and when people overcome these fears, there is only joy and PRIDE 💙 🌈 💙
.
You don't need to understand, you just need to respect.
Enjoy!

Thought for the day - Difference can be good
We all have different skills which can contribute to organizations.
Remember Mumbles the penguin from Happy Feet? He couldn't sing to attract a mate, but he was a great tap dancer. Despite being different, he ended up saving the colony, and you see at the end all the penguins dancing.
The message is clear: everyone can contribute to organizations differently. Let's work together to find out how. Respect differences. 🐧💃🎤
