September marks my first full year as CEO of Whole Foods Market, and what an incredible 12 months it’s been. One of the best parts, without a doubt, has been getting to interact with Team Members — whether it’s in the aisles of our stores, at our facilities, at a Team Member Connection meeting or in a banana field in Costa Rica. I never cease to be amazed by the people I meet, and it’s a privilege to hear your perspectives. I hope you see your feedback reflected in the actions we’ve taken this year. It is gratifying to look back at what we’ve accomplished together so far. We co-created Growing with Purpose – our 10-year company vision and strategy. We made unprecedented investments in our Team Member experience, rolling out a much more robust 401K match, a deeper Team Member Discount in Prepared Foods and more career advancement opportunities. We’ve activated several new ways for all Team Members to be engaged in our business – like the quarterly All-Hands Huddle and our E-Team Roadshow. We’ve also taken meaningful steps to simplify the way we work and to refocus on stores. On a personal level, this year has taught me a great deal about myself and servant leadership. I’ve felt the impactful change of supporting day-to-day operations to leading our entire organization. I’m a natural problem solver, but I’ve learned that empowering our teams to create solutions has resulted in tremendous outcomes for the company. I’ve learned that when we’re faced with difficult decisions, looking to our Core Values and our long-term goals can help us arrive at the best outcome. I look forward to another year full of engaging conversations, store visits, lots of learning and, of course, continuing to fulfill our Purpose to Nourish People and the Planet. I wanted to highlight one of my Executives, Claudia Lechado . I was observing her run our trailer today, and I just had a proud moment. We hired Claudia for my Small Format store a few years ago as the Food & Beverage Team Leader. We had to learn each other, and our leadership styles. One thing I always appreciated about her was that she knew how to provide feedback, but she always took feedback and was accountable when it was warranted. She ran an amazing department, and developed a passionate team. When I left Coral Gables and took this assignment, I learned the Executive for General Merchandise & Food recently resigned. I knew I needed a leader that would be a fighter, and could make things happen. I immediately thought of Claudia- and shortly after she promoted and joined the team. It was painful at times, as she would agree. It still has its challenging days. However, fast forward a year and a half. Claudia is getting trailers done in record times. Backrooms are almost fully categorized. Her digital performance is the best in our market, and at times the top percentile in the group. Brand is consistent every single morning, Food is winning over our guest in the neighborhood with double digit comps exploding past the competition, and now she’s layering on things like liability 100% out of the backroom every week, while ehancing our workload execution through her GM Team Leaders new ownership. My dream is to turn a store around to eventually run on auto pilot. With the right leaders, it’s possible. I think a big takeaway for Claudia is that everything is possible by having the right TEAM & structure. Keep it up Claudia. Dunkin Donuts 🍩 marked the beginning of my work life at the age of 16. Rising early, I'd often declare, "time to make the donuts." Passing by the exact location I worked at this weekend prompted my reflection on the invaluable lessons it taught me about business management and teamwork.   - Acknowledge the pivotal roles of your team and customers in sustaining your business. - Emphasize the importance of a robust operational framework. This Dunkin Donuts operated 24 hours a day and supplied donuts to other locations. Any mishaps here affected multiple stores and customers. Effective communication and coordination were imperative for successful execution. - Take note of your customers' preferences, dislikes, moods, and triggers. I swiftly learned that preparing coffee exactly as my regular customers preferred, ready for them before they reached the counter, significantly brightened their day. - A warm smile and genuine inquiries such as "how are you?" or "safe commute?" laid the foundation for building relationships. - Extend the above principles to interactions with your co-workers and team. - Show support for your team by being present and willing to assist, even if the task is not within your designated role. #leadership #businessmanagement #teamwork #customerexperience #peoplefirst

As I move on to the next chapter of my career with Pizza Hut and Yum! Brands, I want to acknowledge the deep impact that the Pizza Hut Canada team has had on me, both personally and professionally. This chapter has transformed me as a human being in a short span of 1.5 years. While I can write essays about my innumerable learnings, here are the 3 biggest lessons that I will always keep with me : 1. Leading with Heart From this diverse team and its passionate leaders, I learned what it truly means to Lead with Heart. Leading with Smart (intellect) and Courage are skills that I have honed through my entire career, but I often had my personal 'walls' up when I showed up at work. As someone who has faced difficult personal challenges at several points in their life, I hesitated to truly open up about my personal truth at the workplace - but this team broke down my walls and challenged me to connect with each and every person at the workplace, with raw and authentic vulnerability. Here I found the strength to openly share my personal stories, with all the good, bad and ugly chapters - and show up as a 'whole' human being and not just a professional colleague. I learned the art of connecting personally with people and learning their stories, and how these connections pave the way for any meaningful transformation that I want to bring about for my teams. I learned to share sorrows and not just joys, shortcomings and not just strengths - celebrating both the downs and ups of life with pride and humility. 2. The Importance of Emotional Self-Regulation To be an impactful communicator, I learned that healthy regulation of my own emotions, especially during moments of high pressure, tight deadlines, unpopular decisions and business turbulence is paramount. We look to our leaders for verbal and non-verbal cues and this can significantly impact psychological safety and trust at the workplace. Our lifelong personal experiences unconsciously influence how we react or respond to different triggers, and how we behave using certain mental templates at the workplace - especially during stressful times. Through my personal journey with therapy and unwavering openness to feedback, I am committed to building awareness of my triggers and templates, and improving my emotional self-regulation and interpersonal communication skills. 3. The Power of Entrepreneurship and Frontline teams Through this role, I met with incredible franchise partners and their frontline restaurant teams who bring our brand to life in their stores every single day. I learned how the true heart of our business beats not in our boardrooms but in our restaurants. I learned how to partner with cross-functional teams to drive our business forward, upholding true partnership and proactive engagement with our Franchise community. I am excited to continue supporting our Franchise partners and Restaurant team members as I move into my next role. Team Pizza Hut Canada - you will be missed ! 💖
