SMART GROWTH AMERICA Thursday, June 20, 1:00 p.m. ET Complete Streets Webinar: Lessons Learned from On-the-Ground Safe Streets Projects from Alaska to Connecticut In 2023, Smart Growth America (SGA) hosted Complete Streets Leadership Academies in Alaska, California, Connecticut, and Tennessee. These four states joined local jurisdictions to help push their Complete Streets work further. The leadership academies are designed to increase capacity, improve relationships, and lead to immediate on-the-ground change through quick-build demonstration projects on dangerous state-owned arterials. Hear from program participants and SGA staff as they share what worked, what didn’t, and how those interested in these projects can leverage the experiences from this program to advance street safety in their own communities.

With the year coming to a close and reflecting on what’s passed, so many things have transpired. Interestingly though, inspiration isn't always found in distant sporting triumphs. Sometimes it's right under our noses. Directing the Leadership Program for Bayhill Roofing over the past four years, has given me a front-row seat to witness a group of business owners displaying resilience amidst ongoing challenges. Their ability to not just endure but to grow stronger and more successful, is a genuine testament to the values of hard work, belief and unity in overcoming adversity. An accomplishment that genuinely fills me with pride. We don’t need to look too far for positive stories. Often they are amongst our families, friends and community. It’s that time of year to give thanks and be reflective of the wins you have seen or been a part of. This can give us great momentum and confidence in going forward. By keeping things basic by just pushing forward, hard work and learning, success will follow. Development Specialist @ PTSD Foundation of America Chief of Staff @ VEL Institute Columnist @ The Dock Line
The more I learn about VEL, the more I understand its significance. It’s not a networking group, or a lead generating service or a pay-to-play opportunity. VEL is a choice. If each person is a balloon, and tied to that balloon are our fears, failures, anxieties and doubt - all the different things that keep that balloon from reaching new heights - VEL can help you choose to cut those things loose. They don’t do the cutting or even act as the scissors. You do the work, but VEL helps you understand where and how to start. As the balloon climbs, a greater perspective is found. One that shows more of the road ahead and the purpose behind the effort. “Discovering Parts Within” is the cornerstone program VEL stands on. It welcomes a very small amount of candidates each year. It’s only goal is to help particiants cut their balloons loose. It’s the same style of instruction our founder has provided to NASA and executives across multiple industries. Love to tell you more. We have three spots left for the next DPW session. #heyfahey #velinstitute #purpose
VEL proudly welcomes Chris Fahey as our new Chief of Staff. With a focus on organizational operations, community engagement, and event management, Chris is committed to connecting veterans, entrepreneurs, and community leaders to VEL's unique professional and personal development opportunities. Together, we aim to foster enlightenment and success through leadership, connection, and continuous learning.

LOTS OF TIMES WE CONSIDER WHAT OUR EMPLOYEES NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL AT WORK. With the New Gen Leader approach, Applegate Talent Strategies is turning that notion 90 degrees and asking, "What do our leaders need so they can be successful in leading their direct reports?" This is especially true for front line managers who are sometimes overlooked in the leadership development conversation.
Cut Employee Turnover by 20% or more | Increase Employee Engagement | Teach your leaders to create workplaces where all people can be successful | Hidden Workers RETAINING YOUR TALENT
Looking forward to hearing how it's going for employer partners who have been using our New Gen Leader Playbook and training to guide them through this year leading Columbus Promise Earn and Learn CSCC Scholars. Today's first Communities of Practice session will be hosted by Lindsay LaSala and the team at IGS Energy. Thanks for your leadership! David Cofer Andrea Applegate 🍏
