Financial Career Insights (FCI) has been working with local education institutions and Universities to equip young talents with essential skills and knowledge at the workplace.
Today we have the opportunity to shared job interviewing skills with around 30 students at a local University. The role play session gives students a taste of what real job interviews may look like.
There are some takeaways:
1. Show your confidence and passion
2. Relate your life/ work experience to job requirements
3. Polish your introduction to impress
4. Smile and firm handshake
Good luck to your job hunting process!

One of the reasons that gives rise to fragmented workplaces is not hiring for culture alignment. We should be focussed on assessing for a well rounded approach on individuals through interview processes.

Most job interviews are “bipolar”. One is about attitudes, behaviours, motives, employment gaps and values. The other is about solving a real world business or technical problem
Ultimately your ability to solve a problem today says nothing about your ability to learn, unlearn and relearn nor about your dedication and ability to collaborate which are the real skills that we need.

There is an exercise I love to do with my clients, whenever we talk about values. I learned it two decades back, and it still applies, probably today more than ever.
So here comes the assignment!
"Assign each letter of the alphabet a number value, from 1 for A to 24 for Z. Then analyze relevant words according to it, by adding up the numbers, and let´s see which gets us closest to a 100%"
For example:
SKILLS
"S" has a value of 19
"k" has a value of 11
"i" has a value of 9
"l" has a value of 12
"l" has again a value of 12
and "s" has a value of 19
Adding these values together:
19 + 11 + 9 + 12 + 12 + 19 = 81
So, the value of the word "Skills" is 82%.
Not bad...
How about EDUCATION?
"E" has a value of 5
"d" has a value of 4
"u" has a value of 21
"c" has a value of 3
"a" has a value of 1
"t" has a value of 20
"i" has a value of 9
"o" has a value of 15
and finally "n" has a value of 14
So, the value of the word "Education" is 92%.
Close, but no cigar...
Let´s try RESILIENCE!
Same procedure...
18 + 5 + 19 + 9 + 12 + 9 + 5 + 14 + 3 + 5 = 99%
Almost!
But:
ATTITUDE gives you a straight 100%
It´s a simple exercise, yet many in HR and Management fail to see the value in it.
