Here's a gym with a stricter late coming policy than us - but can you get away with this in Asia or the Middle East? 🤔 When we launched BASE in Bangkok I was told that we had to be flexible for late arrivals as everyone was on "Thai time". After having a flexible policy for a year or so, we found that late comers were negatively impacting the experience for everyone else. The didn't know the workout program, which took the coach's time away from everyone who had come on time. They hadn't warmed up properly. And once they knew they could be late, they were always late. And it started rubbing off on other members, too. We made a decision to implement a strict policy for late comers. There was a tough 'adjustment period' but after a while something very interesting happened... In a city notorious for people running late, everyone started coming early, knowing that they wouldn't be able to join otherwise. We even had packed classes where everyone was on the training floor ready to go BEFORE the class even started! It turned some people off - and we got some 1-star reviews like this one along the way (we still do 😂) But a bulk of our clients LOVED that we were pretty much the one gym in town that respected the people who arrived on time Shout out to MADabolic Austin for sticking to their policies and using it as an opportunity to get their message out on what they stand for 👊🏼 Brandon Cullen and I talked about this very topic, as well as some other 'controversial' policies like letting their coaches train before clients if they book in their class. Wellness tourism and wellness real estate are estimated as the fastest growing sectors with an increase of 17% annually. Wellness Tourism is forecasted to be at 800 billion be the end of 2023 and 1.4 trillion by 2027!

In tandem with the ongoing Wellness Festival, here’s a recap of the Wellness Open Innovation Challenge (WOIC) organised by Enterprise Singapore. The WOIC has catalysed partnerships between solution providers and established corporations, seeding the co-development of impactful solutions to revolutionise the wellness economy locally and globally. Enterprise Singapore successfully brought together 6 innovation-driven corporates in their first-ever WOIC run: - Changi Airport Group - Climb Asia Group - KC Group of Companies - Senses International Pte Ltd - Shiseido - True Group These demand drivers shared 8 challenge statements across 3 wellness themes, namely, fitness, personal care, and travel, offering cash prizes and pilot opportunities. In total, we received 60 applications from both local and overseas start-ups and solution providers. We are heartened by the first WOIC marking a significant step forward in elevating enterprises’ value propositions and capturing emerging business prospects in the booming wellness industry. Presenting at conferences is not new to me. But creating a presentation that inspired me to get my first tattoo is. Usually, when I present, it is a variation of the 9 professional talks that I have in my speaker menu. Deborah Goldberg and Alisha Smith asked me to present to the Fuel Women’s Fitness Business Summit audience about the archetypes - The Maiden, The Mother and The Crone. I discovered that these archetypes predate Jung’s work and have been around since pagan times (pre-Christian). But do these words - Maiden, Mother and Crone resonate with you? They didn't for me. Words matter. So I took the audience through a re-imagining of these. And changed them to : The Muse. The Madonna. The Matriarch. I took examples from my own life, from that of my daughter, Millie, my younger days in London and mixed it with other inspirational women. My call to action was the be Kick ARS. To be Kick ARS transcends age or stage: A - adventure. There should always be space for adventure. Doing new things or simply changing up the way you usually do things. R -rest. Always make time for rest. Prioritise your sleep. Take time out to lie under a tree and look at the clouds. Enjoy time away from digital distractions. And finally: S - schedule. Whatever you want to achieve, do or be, you need to schedule it into your life. Talking about it doesn’t make it happen. Blocking time regularly and being uncompromising about this is the only way to make it happen. The finale was sharing my new tattoo with the audience. My first tattoo is the pagan symbol of the Triple Goddess filled with 6 koru (the spiral of education- which has always resonated with me). Make sure you sign up for Fuel in Sydney in May.
