🏃♂️🌍 Did you know the world of marathons is filled with fascinating records and trends? Let's sprint through some marathon trivia that'll amaze you! #MarathonTrivia #RunningFacts 🥇 Eliud Kipchoge holds the men's world record with an astonishing time of 2:01:39, while Brigid Kosgei leads the women's with 2:14:04. Talk about speed! 🏅 The Boston Marathon, since 1897, stands as the oldest annual marathon, with the first Olympic marathon taking place just a year before in Athens. ⏱️ On average, marathoners worldwide finish in 4 hours 32 minutes and 47 seconds. But did you know in Switzerland, the average finish time is just 3:50? That's some swift running! 🗺️ Almost half the marathoners choose their race based on location. Can you blame them? Running through beautiful cities and landscapes is part of the charm! 📈 Surprisingly, runners aged 25-34 make up the largest group of marathon participants globally, at 28.2%. 🚧 And here's a fun (or not-so-fun) fact: about 8.1% of marathon runners hit “the wall” after the 20-mile mark. Pushing through that is the real victory! With iRewind, every marathon moment is captured – from the exhilarating start to the triumphant finish. Relive your glory, stride by stride, in personalized videos that tell your marathon story! 🏃♀️🌟 Lace up your shoes, pick a scenic route, and maybe, just maybe, you'll be part of the next set of fascinating marathon stats! #iRewind #iRewindMoments #EmotionInMotion #PersonalizedVictory

An award-winning director, here to help and add value where I can. IoD Regional Director of the Year in consecutive years, 2019 and 2020 and a finalist in 2020 and 2021 in the International category.
My recent post on running generated some good discussion. Here's some stats which I hope you will find interesting; The world record time for men in the marathon is 2:01:39, set by Eliud Kipchoge. (a complete legend!) (He's also ran a sub 2 hour race in an unofficial event!) The world record time for women in the marathon is 2:14:04, set by Brigid Kosgei. (also a legend!) The oldest annual marathon, the Boston Marathon, started in 1897. The first Olympic marathon took place in 1896, in Athens, Greece. The average finish time for marathon runners worldwide is 4 hours 32 minutes and 47 seconds. In 2019, 7.5% of marathon finishers were aged 60 or older. - WOW! Almost half of marathon runners choose a marathon to participate in due to its location. The Tokyo Marathon is the youngest of the World Marathon Majors, established in 2007. The largest marathon in the world, the New York City Marathon, had 53,640 finishers in 2019. About 8.1% of marathon runners will hit “the wall” after the 20-mile mark. Runners aged 25-34 made up the largest group of marathon participants globally in 2020 at 28.2%. Approximately 22% of marathon runners worldwide include a marathon in their holiday plans. As an aside, these are my latest purchase - with a carbon plate insert. After all, at 63, you need a bit of help, right? #Synergy #healthsupplements

Some serious problems were encountered at the Sydney Marathon over the weekend. It's been an unusually hot Spring in many parts of Australia. Last weekend's Sydney Marathon was run under very hot conditions. With Global Warming and Climate Change now a measurable entity (and a VERY serious problem!) we may be starting to deal with more and more races and events in running, cycling and triathlon, perhaps in the past run in moderate conditions, that are run in hot to very hot conditions going forward! Just in the last year, I have Announced at one race/event that was cancelled due to heat. One that shortened the distances raced over due to heat, and several others where, one of my important race-day Announcing tasks, was special wording (imploring really) to make sure that athletes and participants, took part with caution, and to take care of themselves and to look out for their fellow participants in the hot conditions to keep a check on them! . . and it's not just the participants who may be at risk in conditions like this, it could also be, Event Staff, Volunteers and Spectators!! Will there be more and more of this in years to come? #running #cycling #triathlon #races #events #liveevents #eventorganizers #eventmanagement #eventmangers #weather #climatechange #globalwarming

As I prepare for my 18th and 19th marathons, in the vibrant city of Berlin and the legendary city of Chicago, I can't help but reflect on the incredible journey that is marathon running. Running a marathon, which is a race that covers a distance of 42.2 kilometres (26.2 miles), is a challenging goal that only 0.01% of the global population has done. It requires a lot of determination and may make the others 99.99% view you as crazy. They may be right, but running a marathon is a journey that demands unwavering determination, relentless focus, and unparalleled grit. Marathon running is not just a physical feat; it's a mental battle. Your head, not your legs, will carry you to the finish line. Whether you're a first-time marathoner, who found the courage to embark on this journey and envisioned herself triumphantly crossing the finish line, or a seasoned pro, who shoulders the weight of expectations, or you simply embrace running a marathon each year as a vital part of a healthy lifestyle, we all share the same unwavering commitment. It's about challenging ourselves, setting audacious goals, and proving that we can achieve the extraordinary. And yes, whether it's your 100th marathon or your very first, we're all part of this incredible marathon community. The determination, resilience, and passion that unite us make every step of this journey worthwhile. So, as I approach the Berlin Marathon and the Chicago Marathon, I want to extend this message to all my fellow runners: Embrace the last weeks of your preparation with unwavering belief in yourself. Visualize your success, find strength in the face of challenges, and let the thrill of the marathon course propel you forward. Let's continue to inspire one another, support each other, and make these final moments of preparation count. We are all marathoners, and together, we are an unstoppable force. Onward to victory! 🏁🌟 #BerlinMarathon #ChicagoMarathon #AbbottWorldMarathonMajors #MarathonTraining #Grit #Determination #RunningCommunity #MarathonJourney #OnwardToVictory #actionsage #running #runningcoach

“All rides need not be a race. Sometimes when you slow down you start enjoying the ride better.” I possibly had the best ride of the week today riding along with Raj sir, a septuagenarian cyclist in our neighbourhood. Sometimes when you slowdown you observe things around you better. Suddenly there are new unknowns discovered among the knowns. We start to appreciate things a little better, as we soak in the present and become more mindful. It’s not just the surroundings but people too. You get to know them really better. And just then a pearl of wisdom gets dropped and you feel grateful you slowed down. Something that he said stayed on even after the ride. He said, “Logonko har pal ka maza le na nahi aata aajkal.” (People don’t know how to truly enjoy the moment.) Context: This was a community ride, with over 50+ cyclists, but most people seemed to be in a hurry to just complete the loop to claim the rewards. But hey, this wasn’t a race. Everyone would get rewarded equally as a finisher 🏅anyway. The bigger point is, the RIDE was the REWARD, but maybe not all got the point. Takeaway: Sometimes we are too blinded by the outcome that we fail to enjoy the journey. The true win is building winning teams that enjoy working with each other and value each other. Long term success versus quick wins. P.S: This is a weekly post based on personal introspection of my weekly cycling rides. You never know someone amongst you might find it useful. #weekendwisdom #growthmindset #leadership #lifelessons #management #cycling

I coach Young Professionals to STRUCTURE their life, build sustainable HABITS & a work/life balance to look, FEEL and perform at their best.
𝗠𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁/𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻: 𝟭𝟬 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗜 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 🏃🏽♂️ 1. Running a marathon outwith an official one, without spectators, would be death by a thousand paper-cuts. Having so many people take time to support all the marathon runners is absolutely class and proper wholesome. 2. Completing a marathon, FOR ME, was more of a challenge than a lifestyle- doing this more than once would seem massively unappealing at this stage! 3. It’s easy to go out HOT and run fast too quickly. I found this out the hard way. Your adrenaline is pumping and you feel on top of the world in the early stages… yet around 30km in, you feel like you’re weights round your ankles. 4. Using the “Runna” app for training was a saviour as it keeps you accountable to a solid plan, however, the pacing element is rough and learning to stick to a certain pace is really hard. 5. On the day there are pacers, which I didn’t actually know, that definitely helped me on the day. It’s good to know what you’re averaging without constantly looking at your phone/ watch for updates. 6. Intra-run carbohydrates are key for longer runs. Of course the gels are great, but having some solid foods like jelly babies or squashies are ideal alongside these. 7. Strava is full of hype men and women. 8. Not all hero’s wear capes- the gentleman who saw me on my knees (in pain with cramp) at a service station half way to Scotland was also coming back from the marathon and loaned me his massage gun whilst he had some food- this guy is a legend. 9. Doing an event like this without a partner/ friend or family member on hand to support would be horrible! Rebecca was a wife, carer and physio in one! 10. @koba.run is the best starting place for anyone looking for a judgement free, chilled out approach to getting started in running. If you live in Glasgow, it’s a class community environment to learn. #run #marathon #manchestermarathon #manchestermarathon2024 #running #runna #strava #stravaclub

Always A First Time, Taking a Plunge In 2020, I set a goal to do something significant at 40, but Covid-19 disrupted my plans. Now, approaching 42, I've decided to tackle a new challenge - running 42km at age 42 by signing up for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon. Uncertain about what lies ahead - more running or walking, cramps, or even finishing the race - I know it's time to condition my body and prepare for this inaugural plunge. Besides physical training, I anticipate a mental battle. Will there be more marathons in the future? Time will tell. If you have any marathon training tips to share, I'd love to hear them. #MarathonPreparation
