‘I LOVE YOU JOE, BOW OUT’: Wisconsin Residents Await Biden With Signs Asking Him to Quit Race

As President Joe Biden heads to Madison, Wisconsin for a campaign rally, a group of local residents are awaiting him with signs encouraging him to drop out of the race.

Biden has been facing increasing scrutiny since his verbal stumbles during last Thursday’s debate against former President Donald Trump. Recent polling showed 72% of Americans do not believe he has the “mental and cognitive health to be president,” and on Tuesday, Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) became the first sitting Democrat in Congress to publicly call for him to withdraw from the race. The week continued to bring more tough headlines for the president, as rumors swirled about internal discontent among Democrats and anxiety among campaign staff.

Nonetheless, Biden remains adamant that he intends to stay in the race, and is sitting down for an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos for an interview that will air Friday evening. His campaign also announced on Friday a new “aggressive travel schedule” for July that will include a $50 million “paid media blitz” and unscripted moments engaging with voters.

CNN anchor Boris Sanchez showed video from Madison, Wisconsin on CNN News Central Friday afternoon, “where folks have been lined up waiting for the motorcade route that President Biden will be on.”

The signs included ones that said “I LOVE YOU JOE, BOW OUT,” and “KEEP DEMOCRACY’S FLAME BURNING, PASS THE TORCH.”

Politico’s Eli Stokols was on-air with Sanchez and commented that there had been “strong reactions” by Democrats to Biden’s debate performance and they were starting to “say it publicly now.”

To see supporters, “regular folks who might come out to rallies and line the motorcade” route, to hold up signs like this was noteworthy, Stokols continued. “I think a sign that says ‘We love you Joe, now step aside,’ right? That kind of captures where a lot of people in the party are, that they appreciate what Joe Biden has done, how hard he has worked as president, but they recognize in him physically that it just may not be possible for him to serve another four-year term.”
