7:15 networkingTalk Description:
Data Governance has been seen as a necessary evil for decades. Most people see it as a slow, cumbersome, over-bloated process full of red tape and bureaucracy, that never produces ROI. Even still, businesses have to invest in it because of the high-profile security breaches and snafus with data. Publicity around these things makes data governance marketable, even if internally no one wants to do it. There's also the real problem of getting value out of the huge investment in data systems and teams. Data quality issues wreak havoc on the value equation, and if management can't see what's going on, it can be very disconcerting. So big, kludge, data governance initiatives still draw large investments in time and money. But what if you have a small team that can't afford a big data governance program? Or what if you're just more budget conscious? Or what if you, heaven forbid, wanted to get value out of something fast? like VERY fast! ---Enter stage left: Minimum Viable Governance. Ben Castleton is building a practice with CDW's Digital Velocity group that helps client's implement MVG so they can get value on day zero using tools they have already paid for and/or free and open source tools. As with most tech solutions, you can get 80% of the value with 20% of the tech. Knowing what's important is the key. Come learn how to do MVG with some live demos and entertaining, self-smack-talk on data quality people. :)
