Upgraded models and textures do bring new life to this 11-year-old title. That which once was absolutely superb is now being drawn back by an obsolete “pocket design” and a few elements that slow the experience down. But in whichever way you look at it, it is one superb game and possibly the greatest game of the series. It did not age well, no matter the quick facelift the studio performed.
Luigi, the loveable scaredy-cat that he is, returns for another outing that holds up well in its transition from 3DS to Switch. Despite being a straight port without any new features, it remains a gorgeous and inventive world worth exploring for old and new fans alike.
I never played Luigi's Mansion 2 until today, i only played the first one on the GameCube back in time.
The first Luigi's Mansion was a fantastic game but the 2 is even better !!
Looking forward to play Luigi's Mansion 3 very soon.
Thank you Nintendo (for the quality of you games).
The only downside of Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is the 60€ price tag. That's too expensive considering the fact that it's not a remake !!
it should have been at 40€ maximum.
I can only put a 10 nevertheless cause the game in itself is fantastic, and it's great for people like me who couldn't play it on the 3DS back in time (i didn't have this console back in the days).
But be careful with being too much greedy Nintendo...
Even if it was outshined by its successor, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is still worth your time. It may not be the GOTY contender that Luigi’s Mansion 3 was, but if you give it a chance, you’ll still find it worth your while.
While it may be true that at the same price any Switch owner can buy bigger and more recent first party games, such as Super Mario Bros Wonder, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is a love letter to the 3DS days and a very enjoyable ride from start to finish even today, for both experienced and green players. It comes especially recommended if you liked the third episode.
Ultimately, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD presents itself to fans with an aesthetic appearance of undoubted quality and with the usual, brilliant gameplay of the series. Some structural defects, borrowed directly from the original version, return to make their cumbersome presence felt and the mere existence of the wonderful third chapter ends up dampening the enthusiasm a bit about this iteration of the franchise which, in any case, remains a recommended purchase for anyone who wants to dive into the spooky atmospheres typical of the series, or is looking for a good action/adventure to take their mind off the summer heat.
Unquestionably, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is the best version of this second episode of the franchise. The remaster stands out with careful production, which makes the experience even more lively and pleasant both for the eyes and the controller in hand. However, it suffers somewhat from its aging. The arcade aspect, coupled with certain mechanics and a lack of renewal in the environments tends to be boring. In this sense, the title inevitably suffers from comparison with the third part, released on Switch, which offers a modernized and more effective formula. Therefore, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD would undoubtedly have deserved to be released before this sequel. It will therefore probably appeal more to those who have never tried Luigi’s Mansion 3. Despite everything, it is a nice opus, which has everything to restore its image after a mixed success on 3DS.
For game preservation reasons, it’s important that Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is available to play on current-gen hardware. However, this remake does little to address the original title’s core gameplay issues, which have only grown more egregious with time. Its janky controls, lackluster visual updates, and frustratingly repetitive busywork detract from an otherwise charming Halloween adventure. There’s a quirky, silly little game somewhere in here that has unfortunately not been given the attention it needs to be very much fun. Ever the forgotten brother, Luigi isn’t likely to win any fans with this spooky escapade.

Whether you have played the 3DS version of this game or not, doesn’t really matter. This definitely is the better version of the 2nd Luigi’s Mansion game in the series. Idc how many people will try to say this wasn’t needed because nah, it was indeed needed. This game has been stuck on a small 3DS screen for years and it’s been the only Luigi’s Mansion game not on a home console for over a decade and it definitely is a better looking version of the 3DS game (even if it doesn’t look as good as Luigi’s Mansion 3). Sure I get this was being charged for $60 and while that seems much, they were never gonna charge it less just to give you a discount. Luigi’s Mansion 3 sold well and was also $60 so therefore of course they also had to charge this for $60. So if you’ve at least played the first game on GameCube and 3 on Switch, it’s worth it to at least try playing this too. I get it’s not exactly a high effort remaster, it’s definitely not. But let’s be honest, is playing this on a small 3DS screen even a good experience anymore? When you can pretty much play this game the same way you could play the original GameCube version and the 3rd game on the Switch, on a home console now?
The back and forth between the lab and the opening area was enough to turn me off from playing more than a handful of missions. The controls feel worse to me than the originals, also. Constant interruptions during the missions from the professor for things that could have been handled with more environmental storytelling techniques. The missions themselves feel like a mess that I wouldn't have expected given Nintendo's robust track record of polishing game design.
Generally, very disappointed in this game that I missed out on because I never bought a 3DS. I see now that I never really missed anything if this is the quality that was pushed out simply for the sake of adding another title to the 'Year of Luigi.'
What a terrible game, there are no check points. If you run out of hearts you have to start the whole mission over again. You could spend 15 to 20 minutes getting through a mission just to die on some asinine boss that you have no idea how to beat. The game doesn't give you any real hint at how to beat the bosses. You don't even keep the stuff you have spent time collecting, if you die you have to run around and collect it all over again. Don't Waste your money on this waste of time. They should off added some quality of life additions to the game. The graphics and the sound is good. Though I did find the professors voice/noises infuriating. It's a crap game buy something else.
