Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is another magic trick that shows it takes the right alchemy to make something flourish, even if it takes years of experiments to determine the right combination.

What made the first two so successful — Beverly Hills Cop III is not canon in my world — is that they also functioned as delivery systems for Murphy’s charms as a total ham willing to freak out or speak in a parade of goofy voices for the sake of getting a laugh. Axel F does that too, but more than anything, it’s a reminder of how fun it can be to watch a Beverly Hills Cop movie.

It’s a film of familiar pleasures, but like Harold Faltermeyer’s still infectiously enjoyable synth-pop theme, they do remain highly pleasurable.
Much more fun than Coming 2 America. Don’t be surprised to see a fifth film greenlit.
Despite Mr. Molloy’s tapping into his inner Michael Mann and turning Wilshire Boulevard into a scene from “Heat,” there are scattered human moments in “Alex F,” thanks largely to Mr. Murphy, who has always been a provocateur capable of tenderness.
While this installment isn’t nearly as woeful as Beverly Hills Cop III, it doesn’t have the charm or energy of the first two films either. It’s a limp, desperate action comedy with few memorable moments.
If the spectacle of a film high-fiving itself from across the decades makes you feel physically nauseous, and one that opts for minor variations on a tried-and-tested formula over doing and saying something, anything even vaguely interesting, then hop into your busted blue Chevy Nova, hightail it past the Beverly Hills city limits and never look back.
This is an A typical Netflix film. It's good enough to keep you watching but nothing really of enough substance to make you want to watch again.
They did their best to bring back all the nostalgia of the former movies of the franchise. Pretty much the whole cast made an appearance at some point in the movie, from: old Bus Boys, Huey Lewis and the News songs, along with newer Hip-Hop songs are all here. It is like this movie was produced in a board room with a bunch of bullet points to include in the movie.
All in all a serviceable movie with a few chuckles here and there and a script that looks like someone from the Hallmark channel wrote but it is worth watching if you are a fan of the previous installments.

While this installment of Beverly Hills Cop isn't the worst of the of lot there is something that feels off about it. I don't mean the normal "lets make a sequel to a beloved 80s classic to make a bunch of cash" either. The film doesn't lean super hard into the nostalgia like I thought it would, while characters do return the story focuses mostly on Axel, his daughter and a new police detective working on a case. While characters from the original films do return they're used sparingly which is a nice change of pace from what I was expecting. My biggest gripe with the film is how it looked visually, I'm not sure what happened with the equipment for this film but at times it's ugly to look at.

Not an easy watch. Boring reused plot, tired script and pretty forgettable acting. Credit where credit is due Taylour Paige did have a good performance with little that she was given to work with. Sound track was nostalgic for the first 15 minutes and then becomes annoying and jarring.
