The Leftovers shifts locations, expands its cast of characters, delivers new soul-shaking twists and drills more deeply into its theme of spiritual vertigo. This season, it's less about loss itself than how to fill the chasm. It's breathtaking.
Few current shows on TV approach The Leftovers level of contemplation and as a result, the show stays with you long after an episode ends. Though it’s sobering to watch, it’s also very moving and beautifully acted.
The shift in location is jarring at first but given how the season unravels is justified ten folds. Music is an indisputable strength here and has yet to be matched by any show in history! Characters so complex classes could be taught on them and mysteries so well conceived the journey is as satisfying as the resolution. I've really never watched a show like this before, one that sets expectations and destroys them so eloquently without a single loose thread. Masterful!!
"The leftovers" is one of the best and the most underappreciated shows in the last decade of television. Every season can stand on it's own, but all of them share the same themes: Family, Home, Truth, Loss, Love, Faith. This show asks the most ultimate, the largest (or) the most basic questions and helps you to answer them (or not) on your own. What is the most important in life? Why are we here? What happens after we die? Is there a plan for all of this? If not - what matters? Why do we even believe in something?
It's a mixture of faith and reason. Every difficult to understand event in the show is filled with that dichotomy. The series shows variety of human behaviour and attitude towards inexplicable phenomenon. What people are capable of doing to cope with their grief and how do they make sense of the world that has changed so rapidly and irreversibly. It's a dark, brutal, bleak, fantastic, visionary mysterious, emotional, depressing, mystical, funny, crazy, liberatory and sublime show. It will drag you through the dirt and then lift you up in the sky. The cast is phenomenal and their acting is mind-blowing (it's almost disgusting that actors from that show were notoriously ommited by the Emmys). I'm pretty sure that Max Richter's music in the show can move anyone to tears. I cried like a baby on so many scenes. The show moved me and will stay with me forever as one of the best shows I have ever watched.
It's a safe bet Lindelof and Perrotta have no intention of solving the new set of puzzles they introduce this season with such skill and grace. Thank heavens: Instead of expending energy trying to do a Sherlock Holmes, viewers can simply let themselves sink deeper and deeper into the mystery.
If the first season of The Leftovers sometimes felt insular, the second premiere instantly proves that the show is actually boundless. Just as the first-season cast balanced prickliness and empathy, it's easy to get into the Jarden version of the story because of the Murphys, a family led by the terrific Kevin Carroll and newly minted Emmy winner Regina King.
Season 2 of The Leftovers has its maddening moments, but I never knew what was coming next. And, in a crowded TV world, that anything-might-happen quality is enough to keep me interested. At least for a while.
Not surprisingly, there are still worthy elements at work here, from the casting to the idea of a religious awakening and what amount to pilgrimages to Miracle in the wake of the departures. As with season one, however, the situations don’t progress in a cohesive manner, and the show feels equally disjointed in terms of style.
Em comparação com a primeira temporada, a segunda temporada de The Leftovers evolui significativamente em termos de atuação,enredo e continuidade. você passa a entender mais ainda os mistérios da trama.
I watched it after seeing glorious reviews of Season 3 on Metacritic. My assessment? Don't buy into overhyping reviews (atleast for Season 1 and 2) .
Story is disjointed and I am not talking about the sequence in which it is shown but rather cohesion of story. Things happen very 'conveniently' in this show.
Story writers want something (lets cal it 'X') to happen? Suddenly character Y will totally flip and do something that will cause X. Very lazy writing.
Further, the character consistency is absolutely absent in this show and they do stuff that makes no sense for them.
And finally, the continuity from First season is a joke. They move characters here and there in ridiculous manner and plot is basically deus ex machina.
All in all, its an overhyped show. Avoid if massive plot holes and inconsistent characters bother you.
After the first season which was unbearably painful to watch, and having been enticed by higher scores for the second (and third) I dove into this second season expecting a better show, and a better show is what i got. From opening credits, to coloring, to story, everything about this season was better than the first. Still an extremely disconcerting production, which I hope answers question in the present and last season 3. Once more into the breach ....

Season one was OK and warranted a watch upon its return... but just wow. They really have mucked this one up. The strong characters have either disappeared or turned into complete mush. The new characters are just plain annoying. The story has brought upon itself major flaws and of course the usual excessive entirely unnecessary dumbed down desensitizing American TV nudity of late.. more **** please! Its SO comprehensive and risqué!
Oh and the music... who makes this crap?! The epitome of the current state of the music industry. A constantly cringeworthy annoyance, at best.
Gawd... "disappear" already will ya?! NEXT.
