9-year-old drowns at Pony Pasture
RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - A 9-year-old boy drowned in Richmond on Saturday while swimming with his family, police said.
The incident happened around 6 p.m. “at a location between Pony Pasture and the Meadows.”
The victim was found at 7:01 p.m. in a deep hole against an underwater rock, police said.
“The young victim was brought to the surface and then to the shore by the Richmond Fire Department,” police said late Saturday.
He was pronounced deceased at 7:06 p.m.
On Monday, Richmond Public Schools confirmed that the boy was a student at Broad Rock Elementary School.
“Though school is out, this terrible loss has sent shock waves throughout the Broad Rock community,” Superintendent Jason Kamras said in an email on Monday.
“The Richmond Fire Department would like to thank the Richmond Police Department, Richmond Ambulance Authority personnel and Henrico Fire Department for their support,” the police’s press release said. “The City of Richmond extends its deepest condolences to the family and asks that the public respect their privacy.”
