Man dies after being stabbed multiple times in New Haven

A man has died after police said he was stabbed multiple times in New Haven on Saturday afternoon.

Officers were called to the emergency department of the St. Raphael's campus of Yale New Haven Hospital around 2:10 p.m.

It was reported that a stabbing victim had arrived at the hospital by private vehicle.

Investigators established a crime scene at the main entrance of the hospital where the vehicle was left. Authorities determined the stabbing had happened on Orchard Street, but did not know the exact location.

During the investigation, police said someone called to report blood on the walkway and fence of an address in the area of Orchard Street and Henry Street. A crime scene was also secured at that location.

According to police, the victim was stabbed multiple times and was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was later identified as 26-year-old Shamar Gibson, of New Haven.
