Saturday Weather Blog

We caught a break from the 90+ of the degree weather and a slight break from the humidity on Friday.. but it's back starting this weekend.

We have heat alerts that will go into effect starting on Monday for most of the state. Northern counties are under a heat advisory on Monday but an excessive heat watch was issued (possible heat index values over 105°) for Tuesday. Southern counties (outside of coastal New London county) are under a heat advisory for both Monday and Tuesday.

A round of heavier rain started the weekend, with some downpours and some localized flooding for a few areas.

A few spotty showers moved through later in the day on Saturday, as well. Tomorrow, the risk for heavier rain shifts east.

The high humidity has returned, but we'll catch a one day break from it on Sunday. Sunday's dew point temps will return to the upper 50s to lower 60s. That is more bearable, however, air temperatures will be back into the 90s with plenty of sunshine.

Also, while we caught a break from the 90s Friday and Saturday (with the humidity it felt like the 90s, however), get ready for another heat wave starting on Sunday. Near record breaking temperatures are likely by early next week.

As the remnants of Beryl moved through the northeast there were numerous tornado warnings and reports of damage through New York and Northern New England dealing with flash flooding. For us, it was all about the heat and humidity. There were several dozen tornado warnings issued and storm reports (below) show that there were tornado and funnel cloud reports.

As of Thursday morning, people in Vermont woke up to another flooding nightmare. 2"-7" of rain is being reported and numerous reports of flooding and road washouts are being reported as the sun comes up.

Record Setting June Heat

We saw the warmest June on record this past month, with Bradley Airport recording an average temperature of 74.1°, which is 1.5° warmer than the previous record set in 1976.

The Hartford area was not the only area of the state breaking records, with Bridgeport also reporting a record warm June of 72.6°, 0.4° warmer than the previous record set in 2008.
