Farewell, Peter Kavinsky.
Noah Centineo is back and he’s suiting up. Over the weekend, the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before actor stopped by Netflix’s global fan event Tudum 2022 to divulge all the “classified” details of his (previously top secret) spy series. The hotly anticipated show, officially titled The Recruit, premieres on Friday, Dec. 16.
“My new show follows an unsuspecting lawyer as he’s pulled into a high stakes thrill ride through the world of international spy networks,” Centineo says during the Tudum event. Now fans can get an in-depth look at the high-octane world of The Recruit with the espionage drama’s first full set of photos. While Centineo, who also executive produces his new thriller, sometimes looks dapper in the pictures as CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks, he can also be spotted bloodied, bruised and on the run. As showrunner Alexi Hawley tells Tudum, a cushy desk job this is not.
“It’s rare to find a fresh way into a story these days,” Hawley tells Tudum. “And the spy genre is no different. From Jason Bourne to James Bond, the spy world is always seen through the eyes of a veteran operative who’s invariably the smartest (and toughest) guy in the room.” Owen Hendricks, though, is not that guy.
“The Recruit enters the world of espionage through fresh eyes with a 24-year-old, fresh out of law school, who doesn’t even have time to figure out where the bathrooms are before he’s pulled into a high-stakes case,” Hawley teased. While Owen is the center of The Recruit’s exhilarating story, Centineo is joined by Laura Haddock, Vondie Curtis Hall, Fivel Stewart, Aarti Mann, Daniel Quincy Annoh, Kristian Bruun, Colton Dunn, Byron Mann, Angel Parker and Kaylah Zander to create a cast of allies, villains and mysterious characters.
“None of us can realistically dream of being James Bond, but all of us have had a first job — with co-workers we can’t trust and agendas we don’t understand,” Hawley says. “Only, at the CIA, those hidden agendas can get you killed.”
Watch your back, Noah.
