Vice President, Distribution

Badri Munipalla oversees NPR Distribution, which manages and operates the Public Radio Satellite System®, the backbone of public radio distribution. Each year, the PRSS distributes approximately 400,000 hours of news, music, and specialized audience programming to more than 1,200 public radio stations throughout the United States. Munipalla is responsible for all activities associated with the planning and management of this mission-critical division, including engineering, software development, station and producer relations, and business strategy and operations.

Prior to his current role, Munipalla served as the division's senior director of technology, responsible for the overall operation and development of the technical functions of the PRSS. He was integral to many major enterprise initiatives, notably transitioning to the current generation of PRSS-transmission infrastructure, and overhauling the broadcast-automation software utilized by the PRSS Network Operations Center in Washington, DC. He also guided the development of ContentDepot® – public radio's broadcast programming distribution system – to enhance its usability and reliability for stations and producers.

Before beginning his journey in public media in 2008 as a software developer with NPR Distribution, Munipalla applied his skills in the financial sector, tackling projects ranging from network-system ports to large-scale software development.

He earned a master's degree in computer science from the University of Houston, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in the same field from Bangalore University.
