Shabbat and Sunday Dinner (feat. Candace Bazemore and Gabrielle Leon Spatt)

In this episode, we learn about two best friends, David and Malcolm, who each share the story of their family traditions. They discover that they both have times at the dinner table each week where food brings people, ideas, and cultures together. This book has two readers: Candace Bazemore and Gabrielle Leon Spatt, who are also the two authors! Candace and Gabby met through an organization called the Junior League of Atlanta, a group that inspires leaders to make a difference in their community. They were inspired by John Lewis, a leader who very much made a difference in his community. Other than writing books, Candace is an expert in technology and marketing (spreading the word!) and Gabby helps people build their businesses or community organizations. Atlanta, My Home (feat. Breanna J. McDaniel)

This episode takes us on a trip through Atlanta, exploring the sights, sounds, and stories of the city so that we may take it with us, wherever we go. Atlanta, My Home Was a 2022 Mayor's Summer Reading Club selection, commissioned by our friends at the Alliance Theatre. The person reading the story in this episode of The Podcast Where They Read Stories is Breanna J. McDaniel, an author, researcher, and doctor who focuses on education and representation in youth literature. Which is a really fancy way of saying that she cares about learning and characters in books a whole lot - as we all should! Breanna grew up in College Park and East Point, which makes Atlanta her home. And that makes sense because she wrote this book, Atlanta, My Home. How cool is that?
