I am delighted to announce that Arnie Seipel will formally take over the job he's been doing for the past few months in an acting capacity: that of Deputy Washington Editor.

In his new job, Arnie will mostly step away from daily editing and take on a planning role for the desk. He is, as many of you know, the right person for this: Not only is he a meticulous planner, he also possesses a deep understanding of politics, editing, and NPR.

Arnie will work closely with Muthoni Muturi, the executive editor of the NPR Politics Podcast and a second deputy editor (yet to be posted) ahead of the midterm elections.

Arnie, Muthoni and I are also very excited that Deepa Shivaram is joining the Washington Desk as a reporter.

Deepa is in some ways the perfect person for this position, which we've reimagined to be a multiplatform general assignment reporter for the desk. Before coming to NPR last July, she was a campaign embed at NBC News, covering both Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren through 2020, and was an associate producer at NBC's Meet the Press.

For the past nine months, she has excelled at NPR's newsdesk where she covered everything from Andrew Cuomo's resignation to space junk and AAPI representation on screen.

Deepa starts Tuesday.

Please join me in congratulating Deepa and Arnie.

Best, Krishnadev
