Area Description:

Inshore waters from Matakana Island to Mayor Island to Motiti Island and then east to Torere River mouth.

Situation:

A high to the southeast extends a ridge over the South Island. A low to the east of the North Island pushes a southeast flow over the North Island. A high to the southeast and low to the east recede eastwards on Sunday, as a northeast flow builds over Aotearoa New Zealand ahead of a slow moving front approaching from the Tasman Sea. The front is expected to cross the country on Tuesday.

Saturday: Southerly 15 knots, becoming southeast 20 knots everywhere this afternoon. Southeast easing to 15 knots east of Motiti Island this evening. Sea becoming moderate for a time. Fine at first. Becoming partly cloudy this morning. Northeast swell half a metre.

Outlook until midnight Tuesday: Sunday: Southeast 15 knots, but 20 knots west of Motiti Island, rising to easterly 25 knots in the west in the evening. Cloud increasing, isolated showers late. Northeast swell half a metre, rising to 1 metre. Monday: Southeast 15 knots but easterly 25 knots in the west, becoming easterly 15 knots everywhere later. Cloudy, rain developing. Northeast swell 1 metre. Tuesday: Easterly 25 knots, easing to variable 5 knots in the south. Rain, easing later. Northeast swell 1 metre.
