I hope you paced yourself

The Fourth of July was positioned perfectly this year to turn the holiday into a five-day weekend.  A weekend of that length can get away from even the best of us.

For your sake, I hope you were one of the ones that managed to pace yourself.  The worst way to spend your last day of a five-day weekend is by cramming in several days of recovery into just one afternoon.

It rarely works, and it turns a great time off into a rough Monday back at the office which can snowball into a rough week quickly.  Get the fluids going early today and hope for the best.

Beyond that, there's not much else going on.  There wasn't any UFC action this weekend, just a couple of past their prime MMA fighters in Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz in a boxing ring.

Not much to see there.  These guys were tough to rock with the smaller UFC gloves, so there was little chance that this fight would end with fireworks with the bigger boxing gloves on.

The two went the distance and Diaz ended up with a decision victory over Masvidal.

Other than that, there's some golf on and, of course, baseball, which I'm currently tuning out at the moment.  The Yankees have suddenly turned into the team of my youth and forgotten how to win games.

So, for my own personal mental health reasons, I'll be watching them from afar until they get back on track, which might not be a possibility.  But I'm not ready to admit that just yet.

This is the same team that looked unstoppable earlier in the season.  There's always hope in these 162 game seasons that they find that magic again and hit their stride heading into the postseason.

Enough about that, let's talk about something far less depressing.  There was a Bigfoot spotted in Louisiana!

Bigfoot spotted in Louisiana

That's right.  A group of teenagers camping in the Kisatchie National Forest called police at the end of June after an encounter with a growling creature with glowing eyes.

Some of you nonbelievers might say that this could be a number of other wild animals.  Well, you're wrong because this was definitely a Bigfoot sighting.

The group of 17 and 18-year-olds told officers from the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office that they had seen a large animal resembling a Bigfoot shortly after setting up their camp.

The responding deputies found no signs of a creature with glowing eyes despite an investigation into the matter.  They did find the teenagers and escorted them out of the forest.

This is not the first sighting in this particular national forest.  A couple of Bigfoot researchers in 2019 collected evidence of their existence after they set up camouflaged cameras and audio devices in trees.

That's all I need to hear to prove these teenagers saw a Bigfoot.  If I've learned anything from one of my favorite shows of all-time, Finding Bigfoot, it's that all you have to do is say it and it's so.

Meat

SeanJo,

I told you that I would send some bacon. I’ll get to that. I didn’t realize how much meat we eat and all the ways we cook it. Here’s a summary from the last few weeks.

First, I found some Chili Lime chicken kabobs at Aldi. We threw them on the grill and paired it with some Chipotle pasta salad (also from Aldi) and Modelo (from a gas station). It was the perfect Wednesday dinner for the family.

We recently went camping. The wife brought some lunchable-style breakfast for the kids. I heated the pancakes and bacon on a 20 year old camp stove.

Finally, I fried some Black Forest Bacon in cast iron on the grill. It doesn’t splatter in the kitchen when you do it outside.

We saved some of the bacon for dinner. I made some burgers on charcoal and had a bacon double cheeseburger for dinner.

Hopefully I don’t get gout. Have a good one.

SeanJo:

This is how it's done.  The bacon for breakfast and then saving some for dinner is a professional move that starts the day off right, then puts an exclamation point on it when dinner rolls around.  I love everything about it.

Grilled wings for dinner after a day late TNML mow.

That's a reward for a solid mow.  You can't go wrong with a plate of wings piled high.

Hope you had a happy 4th

More grilling

Hey SeanJo,

I really hope you had a nice 4th of July with your family. My wife and I had a great time other than the higher heat from a high pressure system that appeared again in South Florida (heat dome). I ran a humid 4 mile patriotic race in the morning.

So we’ve been grilling more, which I’ll admit is unusual. Not that we are grilling more, but that we didn’t grill a lot the last 2 years. We tend to buy healthy, pre-made meals (I’m not super super healthy, but I try to be since I train and race triathlons), but it’s been nice to try and grill more. We can definitely grill some healthy options and save money.

Cheeseburgers on the 4th and filet mignon tonight with sweet potatoes and little Hawaiian buns. Filet is from Omaha Steaks, which are actually very good’s #NotSponsored

We’ll try to take advantage of our Weber gas grill more this summer. Had a lot of unplanned expenses pop up, like more than usual.

Take care!

SeanJo:

Tis the season for grilling Gen X Warren.  Congrats on the four-mile race in the morning and the meals that followed.  We had a nice Fourth of July here at the SeanJo house.

I tossed some burgers and hot dogs on the grill, Mrs. SeanJo whipped up some pasta salad and corn and my parents stopped by for a few hours.

The neighborhood put on a fireworks show and a good time was had by all.

What a week on the grill.  There was a lot of chicken being served up this week.  It's been a while since I've done that, but it's on the list of things to do before the grilling season wraps up.

I've learned a couple of things from the Screencaps community since we kicked off grilling season, throw some chicken on the grill and grab a charcoal grill.

Have a great week and we'll do it again next Sunday.  Keep the grills hot and the pics of your meat coming my way sean.joseph@outkick.com.
