A person has been bitten by a shark at a popular camping spot in the north west of the State.
It is understood a man was bitten by a shark at Fourteen Mile Beach, 40km away from Coral Bay, just after 11am on Monday.
St John ambulance were called and were set to meet the man en route to Coral Bay nursing post, however, the patient arrived first.
It is reported the man was spearfishing when he was attacked. He is in a stable condition.
The unknown shark species was reported five metres offshore at the north of the Fourteen Mile Camp Beach.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is working with local authorities to investigate the shark bite incident.
The department urged for people to take additional caution in the Fourteen Mile Beach Camp area.
The shark attack comes just hours after Parks and Wildlife Service officers advised beachgoers in the Point Cloates area near Coral Bay to take additional caution as a whale carcass was seen floating offshore.
They warned it was possible the carcass would attract sharks closer to the shore.
