I used some rainbow strips of paper, die cut "HAPPY" and against a black card, made a colorful birthday card... The strips are a tiny bit wider than 1/2"...just big enough to fit each letter(and the letters ARE a bit different in their width..notice the "P's" are a touch thinner).
